Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, expected to leave Liverpool in 2023 as free agent. There are no talks to extend his contract as things stand. 🚨🔴 #LFC

New midfielders will be the priority for Liverpool on the market next year.

'Dead weight'.

Even if you think it, why say it? Especially for a player who has had such bad fortune and suffered horrendous injuries while here.

I used to think we had more class as a fanbase. Obviously not.

It's the correct decision, though I still have a lot of love for Ox. Genuinely immense before that ACL injury against Roma. Hopefully he's still got a cameo or two in him this season to leave with his head held high.

That screamer against Man City in the Champions League will ensure he leaves with a firm mark on the club's legacy.

so unlucky with injuries

i think he's a quality player but i personally wouldn't have brought in a player with a poor injury record

Yeah not a nice phrase to use against one of our players, particularly as he’s always seemed a good lad and never moaned despite the absolutely shit luck he’s had
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

yeah that position in the midfield three suited him perfectly, compared to where he had played at Arsenal. We took a punt based on his injury record at Arsenal, didn't work out, that happens but after that, persisting with him for so long, contract renewal, you take responsibility for that. Was happy enough with the signing and started so well too, great combination of pace and technical ability at his best.

Whatever his injury record at Arsenal was it didn’t contribute to the catastrophic injury he sustained against Roma.

Even though he's way past his best, having someone in midfield who has a bit of pace and power about them has really unsettled City.

He has so much to offer but injuries have wrecked what could have been a brilliant career. But then, he won the lot so cant complain too much. Hopefully he gets a move like Lallana to Brighton where his minutes can be managed so he can show what he is capable of.

Yesterday was his best display in a while to be fair. I suspect he will follow a similar path to Lallana and become a bit-part/luxury player for another PL team. He definitely needs a change of scenery.

Definitely. And when he does have poor games, you know it's generally a rhythm thing or his body reacting to 2/3 games back and his legs can't react to his brain, or he gets tired.

I really like him and I don't think anyone can ever doubt his committment to the cause or how much he wanted to make it here - on and off the pitch. He can be proud of his contributions for sure.

Hope to see him contribute between now and the end of the season.

Was pretty shocked he managed to get out for the second half, but taking 21 minutes to get him off in the second half even more so. Thought he was performing as poorly as I've ever seen. Also avoided going for headers, withdrew from a 50/50s that was more like 80/20 in his favour. Messed up three great opportunities first half by overhitting/underhitting 10 yd passes and passing straight to them (this one really took the biscuit, he tackled Robertson instead of making a run and killed any momentum we had on a great counter, then passed it infield straight to a Villa player). It was telling in the second half when Robbo avoided the obvious pass to him, and decided to just go alone and try to skin Young just to avoid risking giving him the ball to lose it again dwelling on it or going on one of his blind alley runs, where he looks like a teenager not an experienced player.

Fingers crossed the transfer news today means that we don't need him to play anything other that the odd sub appearance (ideally, only garbage time). It does noone any good playing him when he's this bad, not least because he tries too hard and not smart and doesn't showcase what he could offer a new team if he wasn't trying to impress and just played his game (which sadly hasn't been coherent with the way we play our game for years now)

He really has been poor today. Amazing how far he has fallen as a player.

No way he should still be starting for us in the PL in the last week of 2022. He should have been moved on the last 2 summers, making space for a midfielder. We moved Lallana on in 2020 and at the right time but even Lallana would still offer more than Ox is.

To be fair to Ox he made a decent contribution to our title in 19/20, without setting the world alight, but that horrific knee injury in 2018 was always going to take a lot of him, for a player who'd had already a terrible injury history at Arsenal. And he's had another bad knee injury since then in 2020.

We'd have had that game won at half time with Diaz or Jota playing instead.

He faded badly yesterday in the second half but he was fine in the first half and, given his relative lack of football, that second half dip was much more explicable than that we saw from a teammate or two.

He's clearly an exceptional professional and well liked by him team mates. Doubt we'll see an enormous amount of him between now and the end of his contract but I certainly won't dread or begrudge him any minutes he can generate.
