Joe Versus the Volcano

Absolutely savaged by critics when it came out, but it's one of the most romantic movies you'll ever see. More pathos and humanism and humour than you'd ever expect if you only went by the reviews. Meg Ryan in her pomp playing three versions of the "manic pixie dream girl." It's charming as fuck, and I am prepared for the backlash.

While many hold Persona as Ingmar Bergman's definitive technical masterpiece, for me 'Autumn Sonata' is his most emotionally powerful magnum opus.

The simple recipe is Ingrid Bergman and Liv Ullmann sharing the screen, playing mother-daughter, but what unfolds between these two cinematic heavyweights will steal your soul.

The Hudsucker Proxy (1994)

Their collaboration with Sam Raimi is a cinematic feast, easily the most underrated Coen Brothers film, and for me the only one of their period movies that really works tonally throughout. The performances are all great, especially Jennifer Jason Leigh's, and it's packed with great scene after great scene:
