The rest of the RAWK teachers are clearly down the pub, passing round the ready rub.

It was the only course offered at the time, like I said there wasn't even a widespread GCSE at the time.

The education system was (and still may be) light years behind in teaching IT.  Maybe because the IT world moves so fast but I argue the basic principles stay the same and once you've learnt basic stuff (like learning your first C based language) it's a platform for learning countless more offshoots (like learning C++ then moving to Java).

I took ICT at GCSE, thinking if I went on with it at A Level I'd learn coding and shit.

Oh man. I was wrong.

Head of Inclusion in a good-sized primary school  :wave

Have you moved in the same circle as me then? As I recall we were both SENCO's and I'm now Director of Inclusion. EBD was always my specialism.

I have just been asked to be assistant head and run SEN, behaviour whole school and specialism, isolation/exclusions and pastoral.  So I go up from a department of 10 people  to 24 in september. I'm not a happy bunny as they are not paing me for it, all the other SLT members are on minimum 6k more than me.  We as a school are skint and are merging with our rivals in 2010, so really I have to do it for the experience for the new school, or more likely, to get out ASAP this year.

I'm not a teacher, but i'll hazard a guess.

If you've been on Rawk stating that you'd like to wash Martin Skertl with soapy bubbles, you may not wish this information to be shared with your pupils.

You may not wish your Rawky alter-ego to destroy your career.

So they spend most of their day devising things in which they can include people?

Thought I'd bring this one back, what with the school year well on the way and all... I'm a month into my PGCE at the moment, just getting to grips with lesson plans and schemes of work etc.

I'll be starting my block 'a' replacement within a few weeks so dont be suprised if I turn up in a North West school near you! By the way, if any one hears of any social sciences jobs going in their schools let me know would ya!

And if you have trainees in your school, remeber to be nice to'em!

Im a couple weeks into my PGCE at the moment, hard work so far but enjoying it, people are nice too, and we're a pretty tight knit group(theres only 30 of us, the majority of whom come from the Northeast)

Got my first placement just after halloween in a local primary, but been placed with 2 other girls from the course there too so might be a bit more support

We've known about it for months. To be honest i think it would be better with as little notice as possible because the teachers have been stressing about this since before the summer holidays.

Yeah but up nort' as you would say down there, a primary school teacher cant even get subbing in a catholic primary school without the catholic teachers cert. the only thing is doing it off ur own back, which i havent time to do in pgce year, but if i was to apply for a job at home id have no chance without it...

Just found this story and thought it rather interesting as I didn't know that such a rule/law existed. Neither do some of you from what you've said in this thread ;)

Sex laws are 'unfair to teachers'

Teachers should not be prosecuted for having affairs with their sixth formers, a union chief has said.

NASUWT general secretary Chris Keates said it was an "anomaly" that a teacher who had sex with a pupil aged over 16 could go on the sex offenders register.

She told ITV's Tonight programme the law was wrong because a teacher could legally enter a relationship with a sixth former at another school.

Child protection professionals have criticised her comments.

In 2001, the law was changed to make it illegal for teachers to engage in sexual activity with pupils at their school aged under 18.

But Miss Keates said the abuse of trust law had gone too far in cases where the relationship started after a pupil had reached the age of consent.

She said: "If a teacher has a relationship with a pupil at the school at which they teach, it could be an 18-year-old pupil in sixth form, then that teacher can be prosecuted and end up on the sex offenders register.

"Clearly there have to be appropriate disciplinary sanctions in the school where a teacher works to make sure that inappropriate relationships don't develop.

"But it does seem a step too far, when there has been a consensual relationship, to put that person on the sex offenders register when, in fact, they could have a perfectly legitimate relationship with an 18-year-old at another school."

Later, Miss Keates told the BBC the NASUWT had raised the anomaly as soon as the legislation was drafted and that it advises members to keep relationships professional at all times.

"Any teacher or adult who works in schools who sexually abuses a pupil of any age should face the full legal consequences," she added.

Since 1991, 129 teachers have been prosecuted for relationships with pupils but a Sheffield University study suggested as many as 1,500 intimate relationships develop every year.

NSPCC policy advisor Zoe Hilton said: "The law is very clear that if a teacher abuses his or her position by forming a sexual relationship with a pupil they could be prosecuted and this remains the case even if the child gives their consent.

"The law is, quite rightly, there to protect children."

To Sir With Love: Tonight will be broadcast on ITV1 at 2000 BST on 6 October.

I wouldn't be too sure, I'm a Y6 teacher in a large primary here in Liverpool and the CCRS Cert wasn't a big deal in getting the job. I said I had completed the first module and studies were 'ongoing'. The better schools will want the best candidates, not the candidates with the Catholic Cert.

just means if I want to teach in a Catholic school Ill have to try here first before trying back home

Girl fed school staff hash cakes

Two teaching assistants at a school in Leeds were taken to hospital after eating cannabis in "hash cakes" given to them by a 15-year-old pupil.
The schoolgirl was suspended from Wortley High School after she took the cakes to school on 10 September.
A spokesman for Leeds City Council said the girl had since been moved to a different school. No police action was taken over the matter.
Leeds City Council said neither staff members made formal complaints.
The council spokesman added: "Wortley High School does not condone drugs and was disappointed this incident took place.
"The school works hard to educate its pupils about the dangers and implications of drug abuse and will not tolerate any behaviour of this kind."
