What a band they are. Sometimes I forget. Then I listen. Then I remember.

People who accuse Radiohead of being depressing simply DO NOT GET music. Their music has a capacity to make me feel happier than any other band in my collection. Just had "Go to Sleep (little man being erased)" on at very high volume, and I got such a rush of elation it is difficult to describe. The knowledge that somebody shares your view of the human condition and is so adept at expressing it through music is, for me, a life affirming experience.

Just thought I'd share that with you all.

Planet Telex! What a song! When I write rock songs it's bands like Radiohead that I aspire to. Such soaring vocals, great inventive guitar, and an unashamed desire to push music forward. Thought their last record was a bit hit and miss, but even then, songs like Punch Up At A Wedding were great fun!

The same is said of Blues music, Radiohead, Joy Division, etc.

My advice is: if you have to explain it, they can't hear it.

   cue: "No surprises"
           "Exit music (for a film)"
           "Karma police"
           "Creep"
           "Paranoid Android"
           "Fake plastic trees"

I'll tell you one thing for sure... I wouldn't trust no words written down on no piece of paper, especially from no Dickenson out in the town of Machine.

Most Radiohead fans don't think Creep is a good song - it's the rest of music fans who do.

Top band, although I don´t think their music is something you wan´t to listen while getting pissed or celebrating something.  Anyway, I do love Radiohead, they have so many beautiful and emotional songs, and "The Bends" and "OK Computer" are few of the best albums ever made IMO.

Love that band.  Creep is alright like, but best songs on that album for me are "Blow Out", "Stop Whispering", "Thinking About You" and "Ripcord", perhaps even "Anyone Can Play Guitar".  I find that a brilliant and often overlooked album.

Cheers for the uplifting thread.

Couldn't agree more.

I just have to visit their world at least once a week, along with that of Sigurros , to , for a lack of a better phrase , dream away.

Infact I've been designing a database all day with all their albums bar Pablo Honey on replay.

Probably the most important band of the 90's.

Naa. Whilst there is some undoubted crap after OK Computer there's still been some excellent material since. Ideoteque? The Pyramid Song? It's just a different direction. Fair enough, it might not appeal to all tastes, but if everyone tried to do that, everyone would sound like god-damned James Blunt...

I'm a big fan. Has anyone seen them live? Went to see them in about 98 at the MEN would have been around the time when OK Computer was released. Absolutely superb live. Some discussion here about Creep. I like it, not their best bit I like it. He sang it at the end and dedicated it to someone with cancer who had been trying to get to see the show but was still in therapy... they were due to go that night but passed away during the day. Sang it acoustic and fucking hell it was moving.

Cracking voice.

I've never been a fan of Radiohead, and never really bothered to listen to much of their stuff. It's open for debate which of those is the cause and which the effect ;)

In the light of this thread I'm going to have a proper listen and go through some of the recommendations that people have posted.

Now I realise who started the thread, quite fitting really ;D

I'm one of those who likes the stuff after ok computer every bit as much as the stuff before....

sure Kid A and Amnesiac are both a bit indebted to Aphex twin at times but Hail to the Thief has some of their very best stuff ... "go to sleep" , "where i end and you begin" & "there there" are among my favourite radiohead songs

Anyway, Radiohead are among my favourite bands, picked up a dvd of theirs in Asda, reminded me that despite all the talk about them, they are an excellent band.

Ladies & Gents - I give you 'The Pyramid Song' - fcking masterful.

Not much mention of Kid A on here ??? I play it much more than OK Computer.

Saw them headlining at Glastonbury (in 2003 I think, after Flaming Lips) and they blew me away. Spoiled me for other gigs in fact.

They're doing a fan tour around may some time, in the middle of doing their new album.  According to ed o brien theres been a bit of tension between them! not good!

If you didn't guess off my name they're my favourite band!

Everyone forgets amnesiac, truly beautiful songs on that once your into it (takes a bit of lisening though like!)

Kind of. They supported Suede (think it was them, anyway) in the 90s sometime (sorry, memory of that period is a little hazy). Thought they were on later than they were, so got in late and only caught the last few numbers. They were damn good for that 10 minutes, though.

I saw them on their Big Tent tour in Warrington, they were very impressive. I hadn't realised how small Thom Yorke is! OK Computer's their best album for me, the frustration encapsulated in some of their songs is really overwhelming.
