He does make me nervous at times but I don't think its a 'whats going on' situation, looks pretty straightforward. Doesn't want to just hammer it long, looks up to see who he can play the ball to, at times, the option is cut off so he adjusts to do something different and in that time the attacker has closed the gap, he has to hurry which as you will see from any player in the game, can result in a pass that isn't the best.
We don't play 'just lump it' football in defence, its clear we look to play out from the back and has been that way for some time, it was the case with Karius and it was the same with Mignolet. When you have the ball in defence, hitting it long can obviously result in simply gifting possession to the opposition which just piles pressure back onto your defence or similarly can result in the ball going out for a throw which in turn has the same result.... you pile pressure back onto your own side. The way we play comes with the risk that sometimes we will see Alisson pressured and even dispossesed, this can sometimes lead to misplaced passes or mixups at the back, it happens to each and every side with a 'sweeper keeper', the oppositions keeper being a prime example, i've seen Neuer fuck up at the back numerous times with the same sort of thing, in fact Alisson did it against us last season and ended up near enough at the corner flag with Salah in possession. It WILL happen sometimes, we just need to ensure it doesn't become a regular thing and so far this season I can think of maybe 3 or 4 games it happened at a concerning level and 1 single goal we've conceded as a direct result of it. What pisses me off personally is the insane focus the pundits and commentators put on it as if they're willing us to concede from it.
I'd much rather see us continue with this style of play than go to booting it long. Food for thought, we've scored more goals as a result of this tactical approach, hitting teams on the counter than we have conceded as a result of it
