If only it finished that way.  They lost 3-4 after a very late Spurs goal in injury time.  Oh well, we won the important one  ;)

Nice to see Harvey Blair back and scoring in his first 2 appearances after the hamstring injury. He was one of the standout performers in preseason for the youth sides so hopefully he regains his form.

Shame to see Balagizi injured again but I suppose it’s not the worst timing considering they have a few weeks ‘off’. On a more positive note, I’m not sure there’s a better potential midfield pairing than he and Mabaya in this age group I’m England. Both of those lads seem to have it all.

Blair has impressed me with his desire to run at defenders with the ball, attacking the open spaces between them. It's often  led to him being fouled or having a shot on goal.

Balagizi seems to have another level to his game.
How would you describe Mabaya's game as he's been on the perifery of the team and has started out of position at RB a couple of times due to injuries?

There's a fair few talented players at the u18 level and the last few games has had a number of 16s year olds mixed in as well and the results have remained positive in the whole.

Makes sense, neither are in the first team picture so some real world experience will only be good for them

Sorry for the late reply mate.
Mabaya is first and foremost a powerful athlete and very direct. Whereas Balagizi right now is slightly more refined and plays at different speeds, Mabaya loves to run at defenders with power and pace. He’s played in midfield, wide forward and right back so far for the u18s. I’d suspect his long term future is higher up the pitch.

So what has happened to Liam Coyle?  Promoted early to the U23s and just about permanently injured since?  Now 21, having signed a new contract in the summer, and still not playing.

Some random news.  A couple of lads I play senior football with are now salaried employees of Liverpool to identify and recruit young talent.  The more interesting part is that they live and run a kids' soccer school in south Derbyshire so not exactly nearby.

From how they described it this is a new focus from the club and they're two of many new recruits.  It sounds like a response to the ban on signing under 18s from the EU and an expectation that getting hold of the best English kids is going to be even more competitive.

Rhys probably wins that one. Layton Steward is for me the most exciting attacking player at the academy. Hopefully he at least makes the bench tonight.

Interesting that 16 year old Alphie Devine who scored on his debut for Spurs first team vs Marine this evening becomes their youngest ever player to make his debut for them. Also their youngest goalscorer but was released by Liverpool at 11.

Take him back in a few years hopefully if he turns out to be any good, much to the dismay of Mourinho (if he's still there)

No, I take that back.  bbc sport has him as the goal scorer but apparently he admitted he didn’t touch it so it was someone else’s goal direct from a corner kick

It’s like watching the first team at the moment - playing all the football, but very wasteful, and no luck either. Everton team is huge by comparison and given Unsy is coaching them, not in the tradition of school of science.

It wouldn't be Everton if they weren't a side of up-and-at-em grocks.

Well you can add to my former post a thuggish straight red for an Everton player, and some very odd refereeing.
