Under the Bridge (Garston)

As a kid we'd go to Garston Baths and the chippy next door but never ventured under the Bridge.

Rumour was there were rockers and Teddy Boys there with bicycle chains and flick knives.

Princes Park, Ullet road side. It was just a bit of a valley that was used for its steepish slope for wheelies, or sleds in the snow.

As a kid, playing in 'bomdy's'  (bombdies)

I grew up in the shadow (literally) of Everton Water tower.
In it's hay day the long low part of the reservoir had two bowling greens on top. so was nicknamed, 'the bowley' or alternatively, Aubrey top, being that the road that run down the side of it was Aubrey Street. Now mostly gone, other than a 50 foot section off Everton Road.

'The rec'.   A concrete 5-a-side pitch off Donaldson St. (directly behind the Homebaked premesis in Anfield.

I think there were a good few around the place back then, I expect as cinder from the gasworks was probably a lot cheaper for the corporation to use on footpaths than tar.

The particular one I remember started on Honey's Green Lane and ran between Broughton Hall and Cardinal Allen (as was called back then, now Heenan) and past I think the Carmelite place, and then came out somewhere near Dovecot Baths.

In my youth, the cinder path ran alongside Ford Cemetery.

Every neighbourhood must have a cinder path.  :)

That would be the one from just a bit further along from the Country Shop on Croxteth Hall Lane and that led down to Rockwell Road to get to St Timothy's from up your way.  There used to be chickens along there occasionally coming through the hedge from someones back garden.

From Maps it looks like it's become a road now, Springfield Way.

That's it.

The church name did come to me before actually . Upp Crocky Hall Lane then take a left and right to Saint Tims. My parents got married there in March 1969.

Haven't we both had a discussion about this neck of the woods before ? Conker Lane or something ? Oh I was so lucky to grow up with all of that right on my doorstep.

I grew up on Baycliff Road and the whole sense of freedom and adventure from jumping over that wall at the top of road or turning right and going towards the Alt was truly amazing.
