here's a link to his bastard dancehall mix which is getting me in the mood for sofia's hammer house of horror party at the masons:

dub-skank-house-techno all mixed into one burly package.  very tasty.

oooh and this is an insight into the coolest party in the world right now.  wolf + lamb occupy the marcey hotel - a fake hotel with a real website - and use the venue to host something very special.  they also do an 8 day rolling party at burning man but that's another story:

what an excellent club night that sounds.  tobi neumann is like germany's answer to harvey - he's been around for years.  i went to a min_us after party at richie hawtin's villa in ibiza and he had the good sense to play some house for the ladies and was the best all day.

i can't find the mood 2 swing dub of crustacean on youtube - big for him that afternoon - but here's a link to a slice of them in prime time 'i seen you dancing':

i know this isn't typically a house record but its a very clever reggae re-edit of one the best house records of the 90s.

here is the original moodymann - i can't kick this feeling when it hits:

Love Samantha James, and Eric Kupper's remixes are always a treat.

Lolzies. More chance of a wank off the pope than beating United, I'm afraid. It is beyond Benitez, apart from when they were at their lowest ebb, when we knocked them out of the FA Cup. They certainly aren't anywhere near there now.

ah the great eric kupper.  he was big with junior vasquez back in the 90s.  we saw him play at the sound factory in 1993 and it was quite a night.  he would work records for half an hour - 'london x-press' back into 'muzik x-press' by x-press2 was a rolling favourite - but the best thing was the way they'd build the night up from silence through classical and dub into deep house and ultimately what we'd now call tech house but at the time a camp mix of tribal beats and mega-gay diva chants.  it was interesting to read about 'the loft' parties thrown by david mancuso that inspired 'the paradise garage' which in turn lead to the soundfactory and how they look an all night approach to the music with a slow build followed by a series of peaks and troughs taking the whole crowd with them.  perhaps it was symptomatic of the prevalance of lsd as the club drug of choice.  its all coke and speedy pills now days which makes for something altogether more intense and unrelenting.  no complaints from me mind.  there's always room for a new approach.

Haven't recorded a mix in ages. Have to do one after my exams, when I have a bit more time.

For now here's a fine electro house ditty - Tonka - Jack Track (Audiofun Remix)

and you can say what you like about Eric Prydz' more 'commercial' output but as long as it's bankrolling his other projects I'll say more power to him. This is one of the best bits of tech-house from last year - Cirez D - On/Off

he is mustard.  haven't seen him play london for a while but i remember when he came to london to promote a radio one essential session mix cd he played at the arches with harvey.  my mates expected a retro disco/cosmic set but he opted to go for the throat and played a blistering set of house and techno.  very tasty.

here's a link to his literally perfect remix of french popster ame strong's summer time classic 'toutes est bleu'.  literally the distillation of summer this record reminds me of ibiza when the clubs used to be outside and in terms of a house record its straight from the text book:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NANdIFgqOFI

and here's a link to the floppy sounds ep which sparked off a flurry of interest in kervorkian when it emerged on his wave label.  much sleeker and more on a techno tip than the above its still pure quality:

here's a link to one half of the dynamic duo that host glasgow's saturday night sub club.  harri and dominic cappello seem to have been playing there since i was a nipper ie a very long time indeed.  dominic plays the tech-ier side of things and while both are on a purist tip i think dominic really keeps an eye on the past as much as the future of techno:

currently enjoying catching up on my emails listening to seth troxler's mix for boobybytes.  this is volume 5 in the series and far and away the best one i've heard so far.  seth dj-s through the crosstown rebels agency and plays out of berlin though he is originally from detroit.  i first saw him warm up for damien lazarus at watergate and it was a very classy performance.  since then he's gone on to become one of the bright new things in house and techno with things really kicking off for him both as dj and producer.  here's a link to the track list on resident advisor:

Seth Troxler has mixed the fifth volume of BPitch Control's Boogybytes series.

2009's #8 DJ in the world according to RA readers, has seen his profile skyrocket since his move to Berlin from his childhood home in Michigan. It's something he's well aware of, and it's led him to pay tribute to the city with his entry into the series, which has formerly featured the likes of Modeselektor and Sascha Funke. "I wanted to do something which would set itself apart from all the trends, and yet paint a picture of this city and portray it the way I experience it," says Troxler of his mix. To do so, he goes from the deep funk of Craig Smith and The Revenge onto the minimal of Alexi Delano and straight through to Wolf + Lamb labelmate Nicolas Jaar over the course of the release's length. The peak, as we're told though, comes with Troxler's own remix of Fever Ray.

Tracklist
01. Seth Troxler - Intro / Ryan Crosson - Amb 1
02. The Royal We - Party Guilt (Dinky's Arp-A-Pella)
03. Luciano - Fran Left Home / Mike Shannon - Sweet A Pella
04. Craig Smith & The Revenge - The Soul Part II
05. Baeka - Right At It
06. Dinky feat. Update - Westoid
07. N/A feat. Rosina - Fables and Fairytales (Deniz Kurtel Remix)
08. Spektrum - Freakbox (Richie Hawtin's Uncontrolled Edit)
09. Alexi Delano - Molar One
10. Jabberjaw - The Connie Shake
11. Heartthrob - Signs (Thrill Cosby aka Seth Troxler Remix)
12. Birds And Souls - Birds and Souls
13. Roman Flügel - Stricher
14. Fever Ray - Seven (Seth Troxler Remix)
15. Kiki - Cinema Obscura
16. Nicolas Jaar - Time for Us

BPitch Control will release Boogbytes Vol. 5 on February 22, 2010.

and here's a review with some links to the tracks including his own peak time remix for the ever hormonal fever ray:

http://www.ibiza-spotlight.com/night/reviews/2010/seth_troxler_boogybytes_i.htm

Music Review: Seth Troxler Boogybytes Vol. 5
Published on 22 Jan, 2010. Spotlight

Possibly the baddest of all bad lads, currently residing in Berlin, Seth Troxler makes Hugh Hefner, Ron Jeremy and Keith Richards look like the Holy Trinity.......

............well young Seth is the latest guest to feature in Bpitchcontrol's Boogybytes compilation series, notable not just for guests like Ellen Allien and Modeselektor, but for Axl Jansen's 'Shaking Heads' profile photographs of the cover star. It's released on February 22nd.

Having listened to this constantly for the last 2 weeks, it's like Balance 014 all over again. This compilation is a treat, you never know what's coming next, whether Seth is going to hit you harder or pull away into some alluring atmospheric bliss and more than anything, the joker in Seth means you can't even begin to work out what it all means. No doubt we'll still be scratching our heads about what is real, what is a piss take, what is intended, what is a mistake and that's not even mentioning the bluffs and double bluffs. A great compilation that will keep you going for a long time.

Press Release

“Boogybytes - it's about score, about clubs and pubs, about personality and the things that define us...” This vocal introduces the next instalment of the Boogybytes mix CD series. Volume 5 is the first CD not to feature a star from the label but to give a surprise appearance to the extremely charismatic and not-so-secret insider tip Seth Troxler. His top-drawer DJ, remixing and production skills, as well as his highly praised releases on labels including the Ghostly International sub-label Spectral Sound, have helped him attract considerable interest and great bookings in his home city of Detroit and his current surroundings in Berlin. BPC aficionados may be familiar with Seth through his collaboration with Ryan Crosson and Sean Reeves. The trio delivered an extremely successful remix for Kiki under the name “Visionquest” which has been licensed for numerous other releases.

After the success of their night at the Berlin club Watergate, the paths of Ellen Allien und Seth Troxler crossed once again. Seth was spontaneously given the honour of making a Boogybytes CD. After agreeing euphorically and without hesitation, Seth took the time to carefully reflect on his new environment in Berlin: “I wanted to do something which would set itself apart from all the trends, and yet paint a picture of this city and portray it the way I experience it.”

The track selection which came out of this process conveys this picture superbly. Its palpable deepness occasionally harbours a touch of melancholy, yet never becomes overwhelming, for at its peaks - which certainly include Seth's Fever Ray mix - the tension is released in the most explosive and unbridled manner. Seth already considers certain tracks as classics. For him, Nicolas Jaar's “Time For Us” and the epic “Birds And Souls” are works with a great future.

Seth's particular way of combining the most varied of musical elements is shown both in his fitting track selection and in his remarkable mixing technique. Not only are the individual remixes artfully arranged and intertwined, but single elements are also occasionally reemployed as material in a sound montage. Seth merges tracks into one another almost imperceptibly whilst constantly creating new angles in the way they overlap and retreat from one another. Other songs, on the other hand, follow one another abruptly and yet completely seamlessly. Sound elements are dispersed over the tracks, acting as recurring signals. In the case of the dancefloor stormer “Stricher” by Roman Flügel (one half of the duo Alter Ego), a complete section of the song is remoulded as a transition between tracks. The 4/4 kick drum does not remain fundamentally in the foreground; in the funk-jazz-tinged pieces by Bakara and Dinky its presence is withdrawn, although the compulsion to dance is never lost. Seth Troxler pays homage both to his Detroit roots and to the minimal house style of his new home, and as a result he moves his hallmark sound beyond the limits of 12” releases for the first time.

I am enjoying reading this thread.......

For a while, I really got into minimal techno, and then also into releases coming out of labels like Get Physical, Mule, and Tsuba. More recently however, I've been looking for a change, so I've been listening to stuff that I used to scoff at, like tunes coming out of Anjuna beats. I'm currently enjoying the Melodic Trance album the label put out at the end of last year.

(...and this isn't quite techno.....but is anyone else excited about the new Massive Attack album?)

never really been into it mate though it does sound a lot better to me in situ rather than some warehouse in south london.  just a bit too unrelenting for my tastes.

here's a link to seth troxler doing a five hour set in panama a of week ago:

here's a link to underground legend 'evil' eddie richards djing in eastern europe.  eddie co-founded wiggle with terry francis and nathan coles back in the mid-90s turning his back on the mega-raves to keep things true to his underground roots.  he generally plays at the techno end of the spectrum sound wise but i personally prefer it when he plays house

here's something tasty from plasmik.  its proper house music but with that regimented clockwork vibe we've come to expect from the germans:

http://www.getthecurse.com/2010/01/18/plasmik-connaisseur-hypercolour-gtc087/

Back in 06 Plasmik were relatively unknown newcommers. However, thanks to their tasty combination of no-bullshit house on one hand and contemporary German dance music aesthetics on the other, the duo quickly gained the respect it deserved. Add some dope remixes by VonStroke, Afrilounge and co, and the ball gets rolling.

Their latest EP on British label Hypercolour seems like it could well be their last release in a while; indeed, I’ve been told the brothers are planning to go on a hiatus with this project. It was therefore crucial to feature their sound in our podcast section before they went on a proper break, and here it is.

So go ahead and enjoy this great mix of recently released tunes, unreleased elements with a zest of live sound manipulation! Hopefully we’ll hear more from Plasmik sooner rather than later.

Which Fabric and Fabriclive mixes can people recommend? I've got Ellen Allien, Radio Slave, Simian Mobile Disco and Caspa & Rusko. Only got a chance to listen to SMD and Ellen Allien so far and they're both mint.
Try the Doc Martin compilation.

my favourite has to be the michael meyer mix but carl craig is ALWAYS special; the weatherall mix is superb and i also love the doc martin mix.  they're always worth a listen even if they're just a snapshot of the moment.  villalobos recorded completely original material for his making it effectively an album.  it has its (mega-)moments but not sure it totally works in the home environment though.

I can never find stuff by Doc Martin and he is one of my fave Dj's along with Derrick Carter and DJ Sneak.

doc did a great mix on moonshine back in the mid-90s i will see if i can track down.  he came to prominence at the wicked parties in san francisco that he used to put on with cambridge rave refugess marky mark and chocci from tonka sound system.  my mates told me about a party they put on in a forest with uk disco legend harvey that was 'off the scale' back in 1995.  he got very ill due to a bad diet and had to have his pancreas removed which meant he lost a lot of weight and was off the circuit for a while but he's back playing in london every now and again.

i have big love for derrick carter.  i first saw him play at the queen club in paris back in the early 90s and he literally rocked my world.  i hadn't heard a single record he played in a 3 hour set and watching him mix blind - he could literally drop the needle in a groove with no slip cueing - on three decks raised the dj bar a couple of metres.

i find his sets a little bit on the heritage tip since he stopped doing drugs - i had a link to a set he did at matter with sneak and he was literally playing the same records as 15 years ago - but if you like the boompy-boomp he remains the man.  he's also a very good egg.

I just love the sounds that give you a good feeling......i'm sure i don't need to explain what i mean. The Dj's that make it look simple but make it sound so crafted are the one's i have the respect for.

never really been into it mate though it does sound a lot better to me in situ rather than some warehouse in south london.  just a bit too unrelenting for my tastes.

here's a link to seth troxler doing a five hour set in panama a of week ago:

Part 1/2: http://ul.to/gxdur0
Part 2/2: http://ul.to/8336ze

he is very much man of the moment in house and techno
