Still cant believe we lost the Charity Shield to these.

God, I cannot for the life of me recall that game at all. Probably just as well!

So, any hope of Villareal winning this thing now? Albie to be the hero maybe?!

2 shots on target at home in a European semi final when you just need to score once to go through, shameful and spineless.

And took off Aubamayang when youre needing a goal? Still cant believe we lost the Charity Shield to these.

It's a glorified friendly and it was straight to pens after 90 minutes rather than lost. We battered them a couple of weeks later.

Given how hopeless we've been in the last few months it was embarrassing the ease with which we battered them at The Emirates as well. They should have cut Arteta loose like Chelsea did Lampard.

Might finish in the Top 8 if they’re lucky but they are well behind the rest in terms of quality. They’re on par with Everton / Villa standard now.

Yeah, it needs heavy investment in the summer but without European money and Covid losses they can't have a huge budget.

Then they need to try and attract a decent manager on top.

Both are nothing players. Their recruitment is shocking.

Hopefully they stick with Arteta and win another FA cup or something and be irrelevant. Last thing we want is a strong Arsenal.

I watched 10 mins switching back and forth between games and went for a bike ride. Good call imo. Rubbish football for a "major" semi final set.  Like, stunningly crap. The most exciting thing was the mystery of whats under that bandage on Cavani's face. Run of the mill pimple is my bet.

Inter last season was the first time an Italian side reached the final since the 90's.

Also only one German finalist since the 90's.

Also only one German finalist since the 90's.

Think in the grand scheme of things, looking back at the history of the major European competitions, you can say Italian sides now have an average record in Europe. Of course Milan have the 7 wins in the European Cup/Champions League, but Juventus are massive underachievers and Inter have only won one CL title in the last 55 years! Inter/Juve have both won 3 UEFA Cups of course, they were very good in the 90s were the Italian sides in that competition, even Parma won it.

If not for Bayern then German sides would have achieved next to nothing in Europe. Of course Dortmund and Hamburg won big ears but very little besides that. I think Bayer Leverkusen won the UEFA Cup once and a couple of others may have done so from Germany.

In the 21st century it's been all about Spanish and English sides. This season with an English winner it's 15 out of 21 wins for a side from those two countries in the Champions League. 11 of the runners up from the same nations. In the UEFA Cup/Europa League it's also 15 of the last 21 to be from Spain/England, with 9 runners up. Mad stats to be honest.

I will obvs be supporting Villareal, but cannot see them causing any problems for Man U.
They were garbage v Arsenal and way off the pace in La Liga, in a season where the top teams weren't great.

1-0 Villareal please, with Bruno sent off for diving.

In reality tho, expecting a 3-0 Man U walk in the park, happy to be wrong.

Come on Villareal you shithouses!

God what a tonic a Villareal upset would be here.

Fernandes will be given a lesson in shithousery by the Villareal players.

Realisitically Villareal don't have much firepower and I see similar repeat when united stuffed Ajax last time.

I watched some of that match, Ajax were the better side and then Pogba opened the scoring with a massively deflected shot. No idea what happened after that, obviously I switched off.
We have to change from doubter to believer. Now.

Just switched on. What are they talking about?

They're talking about whether Paul Pogba can do 'a job' in CM because he's 'played there before'?

Why is that a talking point?

Gerrard Moreno, Paco Alcacer and Carlos Bacca are pretty good attacking options. It is actually their midfield that I am worried about ...

I will not be watching but I reserve the right to mock you all for doing so, whilst checking the thread for updates because although I’d like not to care, I’d rather they didn’t win.

Moreno and Emery are our only hopes. Villarreal were a bang average outfit in a terrible La Liga this season. I’m not confident.
