It’s gone from the sublime to the ridiculous now, how does someone who doesn’t cook the main course still go through ??

That’s how dull the competition was....

Just watched the Scottish final.

I agree this is a terrible season so far with Chefs being unimaginative with the brief.

The London winner being the only one who nailed the brief so far.

One of the briefs one week should be "anything that isn't Harry Potter."

That'd throw the cat amongst the pigeons.
If I were a linesman, I would execute defenders who applauded my offsides.

I wouldn't mind but they aren't even doing the magic thing well and it should be the easiest thing to hit.

I actually like the new format. Well, the Wed/Thu shows in any case.

It's been largely the same for what, >10 years, now? Probably needed a shake-up. I think the presenter is a good addition and losing one chef after the fish course gives the competition some added urgency.

Problem is the Friday show - two extra course but still squeezed into 30 minutes. They should have removed the small courses or lengthened it to 45 mins.

Agree that the standards haven't been great this year though. Feels like there are fewer returning chefs this year? I get that they want to give new people a chance, but in previous years it seemed like more of an elite competition.

I'd never heard of sea buckthorn before last month and it must have been used 3 times an episode in this.

Yeah that is true, must be a new Chef fad.

Tom Aikens hated those fish dishes today, a bit harsh on the scores I thought.

Wow, the south east chefs just knocked it out of the park this week - stunning dishes. Ollie might be doing the entire banquet himself.

Yeah his dishes were amazing.

Think the only reason he didn’t get 40 in the chef judging section was simply down to them not wanting to give someone full marks. The two other chefs gave his main a 10 each but the judge only an 8.

That was an amazing week.

Five 10's given this week and that Judge Chef is a hard one to please going from other seasons he's judged.

Another Simon Rogan prodigy going to the Banquet.

Pretty good season, I think the finals this year were the strongest I've seen, some amazing dishes.

I've recorded The Banquet for future viewing.

I see Ed Gamble is on the panel on the new series. You're obviously qualified if you're a stand up who presents a podcast about food apparently.

The judging by and large is pointless. Just like to see good food.

The TV and film brief is pretty bottom of the barrel

Started yesterday, didn't realise it as on until late last night and I saw that it was a recorded already on my Sky box.

Interesting brief this year, I wonder how many will do a Dr Who inspired dish.

I deffo can't see someone do a EastEnders one with Jellied Eels, Pie n Mash dish. :D

Scouse lad fucked it up after a promising start.

The NW group is really weak overall.
A Tory, a worker and an immigrant are sat round a table. There's a plate of 10 biscuits in the middle. The Tory takes 9 then turns to the worker and says "that immigrant is trying to steal your biscuit"

Tom Kerridge is totally uninspiring, and the other two just don’t fit.

Belzan was lovely first time I went when they were going for a bit more traditional thoughts of meals, but second time which around summer last year, my thoughts were very similar to what was conveyed in his scores. It was really good ideas on a plate, but not quite put together right, and missing "something".

Reckon he will push on and improve, good to see him on there.

I don't mind it. They need that bit of fun, the old panel was far too food critic based.

Yeah I prefer the previous Judging panel, I also hate the hour long episodes format, prefer it being a 30 minute episode Monday to Friday like before.

Last week with Wales was awful and the North West not far behind this week, if you contrast that with the North East and South West heats that were ridiculously good, quite noticeable that the majority of Chefs have really struggled with the brief this season.

Do you watch them when they are on? We watch on iplayer so just do one course at a time whenever we want.

The Wales week was so bad when comparing to that North east week. You feel like any of the North East chefs could have won the Wales week and this North West week.

I reckon the judges were probably a bit gutted they managed to eliminate Cal from North East, as he had the best 2 concepts so far with regards to making it look spectacular.
