Question for you.
Do you listen to music when running and if you do what?
4 full weeks to go after this one until I intend to be finished so you're probably not far off with 20! Shouldn't have told me that, I'll be counting them down now...
When I first started running I, like many people I've spoken to, had a bit of a dependency on listening to music. I thought it was critical and I couldn't run without it. The turning point for me was when I ran Chester Half Marathon last year. I'd previously been convinced that music was what kept me going but as I was going up the final hill and fading fast, it was the people that I'd never met before standing on the streets shouting out my name that gave me that final push I needed. Since then I've never had them in during a race and as such I tend to train without them too.
These days it depends a lot on my mood. If I'm having a day where I'm feeling a bit sluggish or like I can't be arsed then I'll put some dancey stuff on to keep me motivated. On my longer runs I'll sometimes put a podcast on just because it's the only time that I've got 90+ minutes free to listen to one!
99% of the time, though, it's just me and my thoughts and I do prefer it that way.
