I always have fond memories of his double during the 4-4 against Arsenal, his assist for Torres at Stamford bridge in the 08 C/L semi, his goal in Madrid, and the last minute winner at Craven Cottage.

Your summary of his ‘best bits’ shows he was probably a bit unlucky really. That assist against Chelsea was sublime. His performance in the 4-4 was brilliant (2 scrappy goals though!). Even his big match winning goal at Fulham ultimately led to disappointment. I guess if one of those moments had led to a trophy he’s be remembered a lot more fondly (not that’s any fault of his).

However the way it ended was a bit sour and I can’t say I wish him much success in his new home. Always feels weird watching someone performing well elsewhere when you know he could still do a job here.

I think he'll get a decent reception to be honest.

Think he will play a large role for Chelsea this year. Can't see him getting any sort of reception at Anfield to be honest.

Been subject to some anti-semitic abuse by some morons in Malaysia during Chelsea's pre-season

Saw that, love this bit.

That's alright, he gets that at Stamford Bridge anyway. He's used to it.

Fully expected the picture of the Chelsea fans giving the nazi salute to be in here by now to be honest.

I didn't know he was still playing, but he is now retiring.

https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/47891379

"It's important for me to thank the fans, the ones who gave me love wherever I went," Benayoun, who scored 24 times for Israel, said on Instagram.

"I am sure that the next chapter will be challenging and no less exciting.

"There are moments [from my football career] I'll take with me for life."

Benayoun scored hat-tricks in each of the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup during his time with Liverpool, an achievement only matched by Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero and Tottenham forward Harry Kane.

Such a fun player to watch. A precursor to Lallana. Dark times was his signing for Chelsea to flesh out their endless squad.

Was treated badly by Rafa at the end and he didn't want to leave Liverpool . Good luck in the future Yossi la.

how so?

After the last game of the 2008/09 season, a 3-1 win against Spurs at Anfield; Torres, Hutton og and Benayoun, when players were celebrating the win and the 2nd spot, Rafa came to Benayoun allegedly and told him to tell his agent to find himself another club for next season. And left without saying a word.

Benayoun was such a strange little player, quality though. Enjoyed seeing him play for us and he scored some vital goals in his time here

My county greatest player ever. I was so excited when he joined Liverpool. He was never a star, but he was consistent and brought something else to the team. I'd pick him ahead of Riera and Babel in 08/09 best XI and that goal against Real Madrid is something that I will never forget.

Good luck in the future!

Alleged by whom?

This is true and made worse for benayoun by the fact that when he said to rafa that he didn't  want to go to Chelsea , was told there was no place for him here, only for Rafa to leave days later .

It was not 2008/09 season as I previously thought.

It was 2009/10 season. And it was before the last game that this happened.
