I used to think these were the nicest cars on the road once upon a time. I had a toy police version of one and it was my favourite until two older girls sat next to me on the kerb were I was playing on my own and while one distracted me, the other fucking pinched me Rover!  :no

And in short, I was afraid

I think that's the most stylish car the British built in the 70's, shame it didn't work very well. The French, Italians and Germans were way ahead.

I had the original white rs turbo. Loved that car even though it had 47 different alarms and immobilizers on it.

Seats were epic and so was the handling, but this was a loooong time ago so you forget the bad :)

Came here to post this. This is pure automotive porn.

However, if I had to go for an alternative, I would go for this.

A few more here..

The Cav.

Mk1.

Mk2.

Mk3.

I had a Mk3 Cav & as bad as this sounds..it was the best car i had, kids were young..had a budget & after the purchase price i never spent a penny on it.
I have had loads of cars..some decent & the better brand/spec i have had the more dough i have shelled out on repairs.
Not the best looking car i have had but for value nothing comes close.

Yep second that John, you did get a very smooth ride from the Cav..a mate of mine had a Mk2 sri & rolled (wrote off) it in Yorkshire early on a monday morning ferrying a few of our mates back up there to court after being picked up at the match the previous Saturday..that near killed him (heartbroken) as he had only just got it too..4 of them got our without a scratch luckily enough.

After my Cav i picked up one of these..

Superb drive but cost an arm & a leg to upkeep like most rovers.

First performance saloon I drove after passing my test was a B reg 1.8 Cav SRi that my stepdads mate had as a company car, for someone used to driving my stepdads 1.6 MkIV Cortina that was an eye opener. He then got an E reg 2.0 SRi, but that felt slower than the 1.8. I got myself a D reg SRi hatchback in 1997, loved that car til the big ends went on the M6, wrecked the engine. Replaced it with a 2.0 Sapphire Ghia which I converted to LPG

Pretty cars, but like the Karman Ghia's, those early Porsches are death on wheels, terrifically unstable at times and very unforgiving, just ask James Dean.

Anyway, I always hankered after one of these back in the late 70's, but unfortunately they became 'collectable' in the 80's and now fetch crazy sums...

At the time, the fastest production Jag, even faster than the E Type.

I also always fancied a v8 P5....

Stil affordable as a collectors car, good examples around 10k, though the 2 door coupe's fetch a lot more. You can drop big block V8's in them quite easily.

And then there's the Sunbeam Tiger.

Pretty lethal really, a 5 litre or so V8, a Cobra like concept of the small underpowered British sports car fitted with a big US engine idea.

Stupid money these days.

The two door pillarless Coupe?  You've got me dead jealous Carl.

Here's another Gentlemens carriage, the Bristol 411.

Don't see many around and those you do will probably be overtaking you though you'll pass them when they pull in to the next filling station.

I remember back in the early 80's when things like this and also Jensen Interceptors (though not the FF's) could be bought for a couple of thousand pounds as they were absolute gas guzzlers with a big thirsty V8 so 12 to the gallon if you were lucky.

Unfortunately, they too fetch serious money these days.

I've always liked the XJC. There's one rotting away in a garden that I pass every time I drive down the A41. It's been there for years ... 10 ... maybe 15. One day I'm gonna save it! But I need the time, the money and the space  :(

Jim Morrison was given that GT500 by the record company, it is featured in the riders on the storm video, Jim spends the entire time driving it. He drove it hard and crashed it on a few occasions, but always had it repaired. Before it disappeared, one story says he said he'd wrapped it around a tree on the way to the Whiskey A Go Go club, he walked the rest of the way and then when he went back for it, it had gone. A fella in the states owns the title but doesn't have the car, opinion seems to be it was crushed.
