got to agree with this
if you take it as it is it is actully kind of useful. The reality is there isn't much to report. Now whilst they do focus on the big teams they do also do some stuff about smaller sides enough to give you  a taste because in reality it is there for the premier league news. No one gives a flying fuck about exeter most days of the year except for exeter fans all 10 of them, and they have their sources. But at a club like Liverpool you have millions who want to know, and if you take everything they say as just rumour(and they do usually say rumour or maybe or inquiry or something) you can get a quick run down in that little transfer window. plus when it gets boring you just stare at her lovelys so really it all works out.

2 things really.

A) You watch it before work/school as there's fuck all else on
B) Its pretty good background noise when doing something else

I'd suggest the radio, which covers both these issues.  And if you're certain you want baseless sports speculation, you can even get that on several radio stations.  And if you want to look at pretty girls, there are several websites I can recommend.

Agree totally. To live up to their 'first' motto, they've discarded the filter between 'bullshit' and 'news'. Some of the howlers they let slip are incredible (reporting Joe Cole to Villa when both Lille and Liverpool have it up on their offal?!). It's not 'news', it's assorted and random bullshit thrown out of some whacky bingo ball machine. Every now and again one of the turds will land on a a bingo card and Sky will point to the smear and claim their methods have been vindicated whilst pouring in more shit and pushing the machine for ever last rev per minute it can give.

It was on a few minutes ago, they also said "Jim White" was trending on Twitter.

The conveniently left out the rest of the sentence. I guess there were too many variations of "is a bell-end" for them to start listing.

Ok, not wanting to turn this into a 'I hate Sky Sports News' hate thread (but it might), I just wanted people's opinions on it as a channel itself, i.e, what it has done for Sports 'news' coverage and if anyone actually thinks it's any good (I've yet to meet anyone who does).

I like it. Decent news updates etc...

I love Gillette Soccer Saturday!

Ah, transfer deadline day — always a royal knees-up, television-wise, although Alan Curbishley, who joined Sky Sports News as an analyst yesterday, seemed to want to poop the party when he said: “The bigger clubs get it all done. They don’t want to get involved in this last-day stuff.”
Now, OK, it could be deemed a little undignified, or even unprofessional, to be grubbing around in the dying hours of trading with the likes of Colin Wanker and Harry Redknapp. At the same time — “last-day stuff”? That’s 18 hours-plus of gripping live television you’re dismissing, Alan. Indeed, it’s Sky Sports News’s cup final.
For proof, check out yesterday’s special shots of Jim White — truly the face of the closing window — arriving for work. News broke later that White was “in make-up”. Next year, they’ll be outside his house, reporting that he has had breakfast and taken a stroll “in the grounds”, and then following him to Isleworth in a helicopter.
Yet, controversially, White didn’t make it to the screen until 8pm, just three hours before the deadline. Now, one realises that news of a potential big-money move for Mikel Arteta tends to work on White like a naked flame on gas, making the white-haired Scotsman a serious risk to his own health. Nevertheless, at the last general election, the BBC’s David Dimbleby, 72, pulled an all-nighter and carried on deep into the next day. Surely White, by some measure the younger broadcaster, could have been exposed to a longer stint, especially if medical staff could have been on stand-by in the studio.
Hard not to feel some slight disappointment, too, at the channel’s on-screen countdown logo, which featured a clock on a rotating football when surely a clock on a smouldering chequebook would have been more in keeping with the spirit of the day.
Still, there was consolation in the form of Bryan Swanson operating his giant “Sky Pad” and, even as he did so, consulting a hand-held tablet — an exercise in the dual manipulation of touch-screen technology as impressive as being able to pat your head while rubbing your stomach.
Meanwhile, fans were exercising their age-old right to walk over to the local ground and bother a football reporter. As Rob Dorsett discovered, outside the Britannia Stadium, there are few fans more committed than those in the Potteries when it comes to shouting “Come on, Stoke” at the possibility that Cameron Jerome may be undergoing a medical.
Alas, though, with only four hours and 18 minutes remaining, the high spirits spilt over into “rude gestures” behind Dorsett’s back, for which Georgie Thompson felt obliged to apologise. There’s always a minority spoiling it for the rest.
At Melwood, Liverpool, Peter Stevenson, too, was surrounded by fans, but few of them over 13 and nearly all of them on phones. It was clear that we were witnessing a radical shift in the “Hello, Mum” culture. It’s no longer enough to stand behind a broadcaster’s shoulder and wave your greeting. In the information age, you stand in the picture and simultaneously call or text her at a rate of 47 pence per minute — “Hello, Mum”, but on a multimedia platform.
The mystery we never solved was why Stevenson was standing so close to the camera — close enough that it was almost touching his nose. Perhaps it was to stop the fans coming between him and the lens, the deadline-day reporter’s bleakest fear. Apart from death in action, obviously — and, in that area, we should report that at 5.05pm, Gary Cotterill, outside Spurs Lodge, nearly became the first reporter to pay the ultimate price for deadline-day reporting at the front line when he was almost run over by a passing bus.
It was Cotterill who had earlier delivered the defining line, “Nothing is out of the question on transfer deadline day.” At the same time, for a summary of the day’s essence, one was equally drawn to the piece of Sky ticker tape that read: “Tottenham’s bid to sign Bolton defender Gary Cahill described as 50-50 by sources close to the club.”
In other words, here was a transfer that was as likely to happen as it was not to happen — transfer deadline day in a nutshell. The fudgy phrase “sources close to the club” is always telling on these occasions, although it was bettered yesterday by the even more slippery coinage, “circles known to be close to Peter Crouch”. Oh, to move in such circles. And on transfer deadline day, we get to.
Then in the midddle out pops a smiling glen johnson pulling up his jersey to reveal a t-shirt of suarez with a text saying. "OUR SUAREZ IS A FRIEND TO ALL COLOURS!"
