No Balotelli?

What have I missed? Or will it be for family reasons?

@Grundy: There is still a lot of time to loan any of the under-21s after they return from Asia-Pacific.

I hope at least Ojo, Gomez and Fulton will earn a chance to remain with the first team throughout the season.

I realise that mate, I just thought Kent had already gone on loan with the likes of Stewart and Williams.

Every chance that while Balotelli is back training for fitness that he isn't ready to deal with the full on tour so shorty after his father's death.

Plus, having gone through it myself. I'd imagine his mind isn't quite focused yet. He'll still have all sorts of thoughts and emotions running through his head at the moment.

Balotelli is a strange decision. Great chance for a few youngsters and players like Ings, Lallana, Origi, Lovren etc. to have a good preseason and stake a claim for the first team selection.

Its not really.  As others have noted he's dealing with personal issues at the moment but if that wasn't the case I'm not sure he'd have gone on the tour.  He's in the same boat as Borini and Enrique, none of them have a future here so it would make sense to leave them out and hope that pushes them to try and sort out a move elsewhere.

I'm not sure, I've read somewhere that Coutinho and Firmino join up on the 20th of July so I'm assuming Can and Ilori will then as well.

Ballotelli missing for family reasons is right and proper, not taking Borini and Enrique is wrong they are employees of Liverpool fc and should not be excluded and treated as outcasts regardless of them particularly Borini having no future with us.

Gomez is very much part of the first team squad, doubt he'll drop down to the u21s unless it's for fitness reasons.

Sure, I know there is no logic in him being dropped down to the under-21s, but there is every chance he might be loaned out for regular first team experience at some point.

I lost my Dad, went back to work 3 weeks later. My head still isn't right. My dad died 3 and a half years ago.

The point I'm making is, just because Mario has gone back to 'work' it doesn't mean he is focused enough to go away on tour.

The squad in full is: Mignolet, Bogdan, Fulton, Clyne, Gomez, Lovren, Moreno, Toure, Wisdom, Cleary, Skrtel, Sakho, Maguire, Allen, Henderson, Lucas, Milner, Chirivella, Rossiter, Teixeira, Ibe, Kent, Ojo, Wilson, Lallana, Markovic, Sterling, Ings, Lambert, Origi.

                   Mignolet
                    Bogdan
                     Fulton

Clyne      Skrtel     Sakho     Moreno
Wisdom   Toure     Lovren    Maguire
              Gomez    Cleary

                   Lucas
                  Rossiter

       Henderson     Milner
        Chirivella       Allen

Sterling                    Lallana
Ibe                          Markovic
Wilson                      Teixeira
Kent                         Ojo

              Origi
              Ings
             Lambert

Not a bad group for tour that. Also doesn't include Firmino, Coutinho, Can, and Ilori, who are still away; Balotelli who has probably been given compassionate leave; Borini+Enrique who aren't in our plans; or other youths like Brannagan, Canos, Sinclair who are probably getting loans soon; nor the likes of Williams and Stewart who have been loaned already.

Amazing chance to impress for some of the younger players, but I'd imagine those under most pressure to deliver a strong preseason performance are Teixeira and to a slightly lesser extent Markovic.

Possibly, but it still wouldn't surprise me if they left him out of this tour because of what has happened. Not a chance he'll of stopped grieving for his father yet.

Couldn't help but recollect Aspas in Australia last time when I read that, so let's take it we will see sketches of what could happen in attack, with the real picture unveiled in August. Also hoping they are as good as I imagine they will be, I have a personal need to see us do better than Man City this season.

Will Can, Ilori, Coutinho and Firmino go out to join the rest of the squad or just train back at Melwood? Would they not have been included on that squad list if so?

Aspas had a good pre-season & looked promising didnt he mate?  However, I really am certain Ings will apply himself far more than Aspas did. I reckon he's a lad arriving here quietly thinking give me a couple of years and I'll be a fucking top striker for you.
