Granted, it's many years ago, but I remember reading Charles had said he would take the name George as King (it's one of his  many middle names).

Perhaps he wasn't expecting mummy to last this long, so perhaps he's had a change of mind. On the flip side though, historically "King Charles" hasn't fared well in this country.
