Lots of these have been mentioned, but I'm in a listy mood

Echo + The Bunnymen - all time moody greats
Wild Swans - moody greats that no one's heard of
Pale Fountains/The Strands/Shack - Mick Head is a genius
Icicle Works/Ian McNabb - his solo stuff is quality, too
Top - had a decent album called Emotion Lotion, very "madchester", 1991
The Hoovers - another early 90's pop/rock outfit
The Rain - quality early 90's band! Two smashing singles and a good album!
The Real People - quality 90's britpop! Supposed to have something new out soon...
The La's/ Cast - enough said really
Pete Wylie/Wah - Heart as Big as Liverpool, what more can I say?
Tambourines/16 Tambourines
The Pies - Underground nutters who seem to do more graffiti than songs. I have a 2 track cd single, which afaik is all they've ever released
Amsterdam - fronted by Ian Prowse who has a cracking emotional voice, check out "Does This Train Stop on Merseyside?" Which is about Hboro...
Anathema - death metal \m/
Deaf School - art rock loonies. Also genios
The Maybes? - Indie Rock, bit mediocre
The Troubadors - see above
Benny Profane/The Room - 80's indiepop

Not gonna mention all the pop shite like ATomic Kitten.

VIPER records does 3 cd's of "Lost" liverpool tracks which are essential purchases if you ask me, you can order on their website

The Yachts first album on radar was good, about 78, Priestman's solo album is alright too. there were a few bands in the mid 80s that were good to watch Come in Tokyo, Personal Column & the High V, some I can remember, have got some of it at home on vinyl.

OT but bands who had no business singing about us:

1.In Liverpool, Suzanne Vega

She did,it's about a fella from Liverpool she met in America, hence the reason she loves the city.

Anyone remember The 25th of May -  a White Scouse Marxist hip hop band if I recall.
Think they were one of the first bands to record a song about Hillsborough, a song called "Why"
They also got banned from playing a gig in Wolverhampton after threats from a few squaddies who took exception to a song called "Army 2 Joyriders 0", which criticized the British armies shooting of 2 joyriders in Northern Ireland.

On a brighter note 2 people, This is the shirt - shoulda been a hit

I have their 12" singles. named after the day the belgrano was sank?

Eranu!   Named after my good self actually.

Swindelli's mob were named after the Argentine battleship Veinticinco de Mayo that stayed in port throughout the Falklands conflict.  The ship itself was actually built at Lairds and originally saw service in the RN as HMS Venerable.  It then had a brief life in Holland as the Karel Doorman before being flogged to Argentina and renamed in honour of the date of the Argentine Revolution of 1810.

So a fourfold Liverpool connection, the ship, the band and two European Cups.  I don't just pick these names out of a bag ya know ;)

Bit of a bump

Some early 80s obscurities

Cherry Boys - had a fair bit of local airplay with Kardomah Cafe

Ex Post Facto - Liverpool's contribution to the pseudo goth scene. Oceanic Explorers was a cracking song.

Anyone here remember Tontrix/Hambi and the Dance?

Hambi Haralambous was behind both and in another time, another place could have been big...late 70's  for Tontrix who split up after a single and a track on the classic 'Reel to Reel' Liverpool compilation. I saw them a few times and thought they had real potential to make it...his later band Hambi and the Dance almost did with a couple of boss singles and half decent debut LP...unfortunatly for them they didnt enjoy the patronage of the critics and  never got beyond a small fan base.

Anyone who knows where I can buy the album The Journey as a brand new? I have searched anywhere and it seems like it's impossible to get brand new. I was so ufortunate to miss out at the sale after the great show at the Mathew Street festival yesterday because the records was sold out in no time.

PS: What album is the number "Name and number" on?

For The Journey if you go on Amsterdam's own site, there use to be a section where you could buy their CD's, at least that's were I got mine. As for Name and Number that was by Ian Prowse's former band Pele and it is on the album called The Sport of Kings, which is difficult to get hold of. There use to be a Pele website that you could get stuff off, I would check and see if it still exists.

Some of the stuff I bought has been used, but it is normally ok. As for The Coral extras I think they are just songs left over from earlier on. Hopefully they will bring out a new album too.

Anyone remember the stands from a few years back, brilliant live but the albums are just a little too polished. Lead singer Howie Payne is brilliant and loads of new stuff on YouTube is great.

Also love anything that Edgar Jones is involved in. Free Peace (or whatever they have changed their name to again) are quality
