What will the final CAS/UEFA Manchester City penalty be?
« on: February 18, 2020, 02:12:36 pm »
Figured I wanted to gague RAWK's opinion on what the thing will be like!

I think CAS will reduce it to one year but that the verdict will be late enough for the ban to be served in 2021-22. I hope I'm wrong and the existing verdict stands in effect from this summer already, not out of spite or dislike for City fans, but because I think rules violation calls should be respected by courts. Still, I really doubt it will stand by a two-year scale.

I don't quite get why people think their punishment will be halved, its not like they have cooperated with the authorities or showed any contriteness. I think it will be upheld in full.

Too much riding on this for UEFA to back down. Put to one side the breaking of the rules by City, their attitude towards UEFA through the entire process has been a mixture of utter contempt, lies, bluster and non cooperation. UEFA's reputation and authority to enforce their own rules will be in absolute tatters if they dont hold firm.

Man City have very few allies and the Germans/Spanish amongst others are in UEFAs corner. I see the 2 year ban staying in place with the punishment effective from next season.

The fact that UEFA have given them a 2 year ban, knowing full well how City can afford to drag them through every court in every land makes me think that they must be sure that they have them nailed. Having said that, UEFA don't come across as the most competent organisation so I'm thinking they'll end up settling out of court with a fine and a slap on the wrist.

I reckon the ban will stand after appeal, honestly don't think they're going to get away with it this time. Fully aware of the litigious threat from ADUG, UEFA have thrown down the gauntlet and hit them hard. I've not read anything that could persuade the CAS that City have been overly sanctioned or been treated in a biased fashion.

Agree with full two years, starting next year.

It’s in everyone’s interest to know where they stand in planning for next year, so the CAS ruling will be swift.

I think CAS will uphold the ban. Don't see why they should reduce it, if they think Man City have broken the rules the way Uefa says. Don't think it will take effect immediately as Man City seem to be prepared to go further and won't accept anything but being absolved of any wrongdoing.

2 year ban upheld, starting next year.

UEFA have never known to be the most upstanding corporation so wouldn’t be surprised if there was an epic swindle and City’s lawyers somehow found a loophole. But I’ve read that their case is watertight so fully expecting the ban to be upheld. Hopefully it even gets increased.

Including a reduction in the "home grown" requirement, if I recall correctly. So in a way they actually benefitted from it.
