His sides don't hoof it as much as Pulis. They're much closer to what Pulis at his most, erm, 'progressive' was attempting with a couple of good(ish) wide players.

They're just as fucking snide, dirty and shitehouseish though. Proper gang of c*nts.

It was so obvious that it was going to be Mark Hughes. I wouldn’t put it past him leaving within the next few years and still finding another job in this league!

Hughes' teams play workmanlike, roughhouse football at their best level. So he should fit in pretty well.

Shame. Stoke could have really pushed on and done well with the right manager. Pretty stable club with a city that takes a lot of pride in it.

Stoke got there man.
Liverpool manager Rafael Benítez admitted after the match that the manner of his side's victory had stunned him and he stated: "My problem is that I don't have words to express the things that I feel at this moment"

I know but he won't change them radically - which given their playing staff is probably a good thing regarding surviving - and just think there are even poorer teams that, for me, are more likely candidates for the drop than Stoke, even with Hughes at the helm.

For about 6 seasons they manage to stay in the PL, now they have recruited the best guy to prepare them to go to Championship.

Talkshite trying to get callers to be postive about Hughes' appointment and I've only heard one - and it wasn't really postive, more 'got to give him a chance' - plenty of others (Stoke fans and other clubs) commenting along the lines of 'very worried' to 'a disaster'.

I know this isn't a popular view but if they get the Blackburn or Wales Mark Hughes (or even Fulham to a degree) then it could be a good choice.

If they get the QPR version though.....

"I have listened to what people have said about me as a manager and will use that as motivation to do well for Stoke," he said.

"I've had something like 270 games as a Premier League manager, but people do tend to look at the last year or so.

"But I don't regret moving to QPR. A lot of managers have gone in there and found it difficult.

"It was tough, and mistakes were made. I made mistakes and other people made mistakes too.

"I was given the task of keeping them in the Premier League and thankfully I did that. Twelve games later though I lost my job, because we didn't get the results we wanted at that time.

"If I am honest, we all tried to run there before we could walk, and that was the mistake that we made."

Way to instil some confidence. If it was any other club I would feel a little sorry. But since its Stoke I think I'll just sit back and enjoy the downfall

Thing is, even if you were confident of him, what's to stop him having a goodish season and then fucking off like he did at Fulham.

Needless appointment in my opinion.

Pretty certain they will be next season.

Amazing a coach like Hughes with a managerial history like the one he has, can still find a job in the Premier League.

36%? That isnt too shabby for a manager who usually takes over low league teams, unless it was propped up from his Man City results?

mental isn't it.
surely they could have found a good young manager in Spain or Italy or Germany who would relish the chance at a PL job?
or even an ambitious manager from a lower league who was on the up.

Looking at Wikipedia excluding City his PL club win percentage is 33%. I guess that includes cup ties as well.
