Would anyone kindly put my XI into Team Builder, it’s not optimised for iPhone and I have no access to any other device for a couple of days.
Team would be:
Rush
Dalglish Suarez
Henderson Molby Gerrard
Alan Kennedy Phil Neal
Lawrenson Hansen
Reina
Thanks in advance.
Notes - A touch narrow, difficult as soon as Barnes got taken. I basically had to take Stevie or Digger first, and as Stevie was available to four managers in the draft, and is Liverpool’s greatest player in my lifetime, I had to go for him. Steve McManaman was an option, but then you probably have to sacrifice Suarez to stop the formation being somewhat lopsided.
The defence speaks for itself, the midfield has energy, quality in possession and that penetration that Stevie offers. There’s them two geniuses flanking one of the deadliest strikers in the history of Football.
Players I could’ve selected: Torres - Toyed with the idea of a more traditional 2 up top, but decided that for as incredible as Torres was, Suarez was better and could adapt to more formations.
Larsson - Considered him as a left field pick, just because it’s a bit odd to think he did play under the King. Ultimately, not as good as the other options despite undoubtedly being a wonderful player.
Shearer - Alongside Larsson, the only non- Liverpool player I seriously considered. And for all his goal scoring prowess, I think Rush edges it, Suarez was a more talented and chaotic forward and we know that Kenny fits in nicely with Rush.
A few that I noted down I could’ve had - Agger, Aurelio, Bellamy, Nicol, McMahon, Beardsley, Pearce, Wright, Viduka, Sterling.
Maybe Torres flanked by McManaman and Sterling would’ve been interesting. Still prefer what I’ve got. Overall, really enjoyed this draft. There was a different type of planning to it, knowing you could leave some serious quality until late in the draft as they were safe, whilst also having to prioritise players available to more managers even if they wouldn’t typically be your first pick. I was lucky in that I got 10 of the original XI I planned, and most of them picked themselves. I was also lucky in that 7 of my XI were only available to me.
Kenny was a nice one to get for obvious reasons, but also an interesting one, given the big era difference the players could be selected from. To think I could have a player like Phil Neal, who left Liverpool on 1985, in the same team as Sterling who debuted in 2012, it gives great options. However, it also showed up the sparsity of quality in Kenny’s latter squad, when only really Gerrard and maybe Aurelio or Agger at a push could be justified for inclusion amongst the outfield players. That Blackburn squad on paper also had no business winning the league.
Been a fun one.
