yes, with option to buy him and sign for another 3-4 seasons.

Can't fault his attitude, always gave his all and celebrated like a fan on the sidelines even though the easier option would have been to sit there and sulk. Hasn't quite worked out for him with us but best of luck in the future Iago.
Exactly. I'll be rooting for him. Seems like a wonderful guy.  :)

Good luck Aspas, maybe you deserved more opportunities, but not to be the case, thanks to the best strike force in PL we had when you were around.

Why do they agree to put a buy clause in when loaning players?  I dont get how it can ever be beneficial to the seller cos the loan club will only ever take up the buy clause if the players worth more at the end of the season, unless theyre italian where they will just try to renegotiate it anyway.

Same reason a buying club puts a sell-on clause or buyback clause in a contract, because there would be no deal without it.

We want rid of Aspas. No takers. Someone offers to loan him, cover his wages, pay a fee of £1m or £2m and if they like what they get buy him at the end.

Ultimately it´s win-win. If he works out well, we get the fee we want plus the loan fee. If not, we got back some of his fee and his wages off the books for a season at least. They get to try before they buy as we did with Cissokho and Mascherano.

I think somewhere like Swansea would've been a better fit for him.

More game time to get used to the pace/physicality here (which he clearly needed), and less pressure to perform.

There is a player in there somewhere though.

Good luck, Iago.

I'll always smile when I think of Iago Aspas, and the worst corner I've ever seen live.
The week before we played them, Chelsea lost 2-1 at home to Sunderland. Sunderland's first goal came from a corner played to the edge of the 'D' to an unmarked player who wasn't closed down and was able to control the ball and shoot.

That was obviously something we noticed and worked on as our first corner against Chelsea in that home game we attempted exactly the same routine but I think we miss the target. Aspas gets a lot of stick for that corner but he is clearly trying the same set-piece but someone hasn't made the necessary run which makes him look the idiot. Although frustrating at the time, i don't think it's fair to blame him for that corner.

Good luck to him, never really got a chance here with Suarez and Sturridge ahead of him.

which one of Suarez or Sturridge would you have dropped to accommodate him though?  I suspect he was bought due to the anticipation Suarez was going to leave last year, he didn't so Aspas didn't really get a look in when he was back from the ban

Kudos to you for making the case. I've been trying (in vain) to do so as well ever since that bungled training-ground-routine corner kick occurred. People do love themselves a scapegoat, don't they?

Seemed like a good lad to have around, looked like he gave his all in training and was always looking to get involved anytime he got on the field, it just never worked out for him. I can remember a couple of games we already had in the bag where he got in great positions but never got fed. Might have done him the world of good to have got on the scoresheet even in those types of games.

I liked him, on the rare occasion that he started up front he looked really sharp and was a definite threat, but because he was shunted out wide for a few games and then dropped everyone calls him a failure.

Hopefully he has a good season at Sevilla, I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for him.

Show some respect. He gave his all for us. And let's not base his entire abilities on a corner or two he took in cameo appearances. He was a very good player in Spain and will likely do well upon his return there.
