Don't really need lightbulbs, doing our bit for the environment, my keyboard glows in the dark.
Quite handy really.

I turned on my PC today for the first time in a week - spent the first 10 minutes downloading new virus definitions. AV crashed halfway through. Restarted my PC (which took more than two minutes). AV finished downloading. 15 minutes gone. Of my life. Updating AV. Which I don't have to do on my mac.

I can remember the dark days before I had my Steve Jobs.

Nidge drives a very nice BMW, thank you :D (and it's doesn't have any apple stickers on it)

Mac users don't use light bulbs because they're narrow-minded zealots who only use Apple products, no matter how shitty (except the odd token moan to show how unbias they are) and apple don't make lightbulbs.

Mac lightbulbs ???

I suppose if Apple did make bulbs, they'd be incompatible with 95% of light fittings, cost twice as much and you'd need half a dozen of them to equal the output of a normal one. Oh, and they'd be used by c*nts. (I'd put a smiley here, but I used up my daily quota in the first sentence.)

Guys. Just picked up a new iPhone 15 on an upgrade and want to utilize it as best I can, so looking at a wireless charging

What am I missing here?  So instead of plugging a USB-C cable directly into the port on my iPhone.  Do I just place my phone onto the charging pad?

Can someone explain what exactly are the benefits of wireless charging?    What I just described above will save me about a nanosecond of time and there is still a need for a wire to be running from the wall power outlet or laptop.

This is a dedicated idiot thread so don't judge me!! :)

And the connecting jack is the common failure point of any cable. So it’s simply more convenient and durable.

You'll see wireless charging in cars which also connects it to CarPlay, and probably built into desks, connected to Apples HomeKit, etc.

Can definitely see them adopting it at some point.

Never.

It's pointless.  Why have a splat of a wireless charger on your bedside table with your phone on it?

It's more "stuff".  That needs plugging in to, always the chance you knock the phone off etc too.

Easier and more elegant to plug it in.

If they'd wanted wireless charging it would have been on the 5

Yes Tepid.  Yes.

And the connecting jack is the common failure point of any cable. So it’s simply more convenient and durable.
I've got 'magnetic' charging cables. You plug a dongle thing into the socket on your phone, then the wire just connects to it by magnet.
Solves the problem of cables being plugged in and out of the phone, the cables do need to be replaced (not expensive), and if you charge in multiple locations you need cables in all of them.
But no wear and tear on the phone, and there's something satisfying when the magnet connects.
Probably too unsightly for apple folk though.
