Imperious. Stupendous. Fabulous. Ridiculous.
Smith. Hughes. Thompson. Hansen. Lawrenson. These were our great central defenders during our dominant 70's and 80's. But Virgil top them all. The greatest Liverpool central defender ever. The greatest signing ever.
The "great" Jamie Vardy swatted like a fly in both games ...
Imagine Van Dijk next to Hansen in either era. I doubt they would have to make more than a couple of tackles each in a game. They'd both just be in the right place at the right time.
One of my favourite things about watching us play the last couple of seasons has been watching the way Van Dijk conducts events around him. He's constantly talking, pointing out the danger, pointing out the opportunities.
He's like a swan gliding effortlessly around the pitch because out of site his brain is paddling like fuck.
