How many Chickens do I have
« on: March 26, 2002, 12:14:09 am »
Runners-up in the P/ship have never had as many as 80 points to date. 6 games to go, 5 wins would get us 80......

Depends on how many have hatched!  ;) ;D ;D ;D

Although it's generally agreed that we have the easiest run-in there is one caveat to bear in mind. As I have pointed out in another post, out of 18 points in the same matches last season we got - 8!

In other words these are the matches that let us down last season!

Now there are a number of reasons why this should not happen again this season (The timing at the end of the season means teams may have to play to our strengths for 3 points rather than presenting a 10-man defence for a draw plus the fact that we seem to be showing an ability in the last few weeks to adapt our play to cope) but it's a point to bear in mind nonetheless...

I think with the Euro distraction our hope to turn that 8 points into 15-18 will rest on the shoulder of a certain Nicolas Anelka ....

And I am being very optimmisstic here ;D

At home we have no teams to come that can stop what we've got on offer.  I don't see anyone in the fixture list coming to Anfield with a defence capable of stopping Owen, Heskey, Litmanen and Anelka.

Away... Sunderland away will be tough, like Middlesbrough, but we can sneak that I've no doubts.

There's only one truly testing game left, it's Spurs away and it, combined with Arsenal dropping a couple of points now that Pires is out, could be the title decider.

We may indeed finish the season without a trophy but the last two months of it look to be every bit as enthralling as the same period this time last year.

Happy Days!

I would imagine that M. Houllier has pointed out the fact that we need more than 8 this year.  (Let's hope so, anyway.)  I have pretty good confidence in at least 15 points.  Come on you mighty Reds!

KFC europe isn't a distraction for us though.  In league games that immediately followed CL matches we have taken 34 points from a possible 36.

erm ... (consulting evolutionary theory for dummies) ... yet other related and crucial questions still remain - why did the chicken cross the road?  All the farmers I know generally consider this a most dangerous pastime.

Having proved to myself my inability to predict results in all sports over the years, I'll just take what comes this season.  Whatever happens, I'm proud of this team for showing character, resilience and spirit to see us through the bad times.  And I'm proud of those fans who didn't waver.  That won't change, whatever the next six weeks bring.
