The Party episode with Nicholas Ball as Professor Jim Morrison.

"Heeeey, is this tobacco or Pink Floyd?" ;D

They were jaw-droppingly funny at the time. Pretty much know them by heart now. Got them on some thoroughly worn out videos.

Love The Young  Ones. Nothing they've done since has quite reached the same level, but that's just my two penn'orth.
It was very much 'of its time'- student radicalism, the threat of nuclear war which anyone in their 30s will remember as an apparent daily threat, the music... but the characterisation is the strong point for me, and that doesn't change.
On a side note- is it just me or are students more and more alike these days?

Loved it, Vivien losing his head ( after sticking it out of the train window ) then booting it along the railway track, shouting come here you bastard springs to mind.

Also when Neil is offered some drugs, with the advice ' bang your lips round this number baby ', before floating skywards having sampled the said drugs me  laugh.

Some good music on it as well, including my fave punksters The Damned.

I have all 12 of The Young Ones on video, they are classics.

I'd suggest getting "Bottom : Mindless Violence" on DVD if you haven't already. It's got pretty much everything violent that Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson have done for the past 25 years. Quality DVD.

Anyway, back to The Young Ones. I love Alexi Sayle in it (one of our own :D), I think he's really funny. My favourite episode is "Sick".

Vyvian - Now Neil, you might feel a bit of a prick
Neil - So what's new?

Neil: It was getting really hot. Then I thought oh no, I should have put out that sociology file that was burning on Rick's bed.

Vyvyan: Yeah, I did that. Trying to make Rick think I was hiding in his bedroom.

Neil: What? You set fire to Rick's bedroom? I think that's a really selfish thing to do Vyvyan. I was hiding in there - you could have given me away!

Remember this one.

Alexei Sayle sings it while dressed as Mussolini.

Stupid Noises Song!
(The Young Ones – Series 2, “Cash”)

Whenever people bother me,
When they shout and raise their voices,
I don't let it get me down,
I just make some stupid noises.

I go,
Huh, huh, huh, huh,
Nick-nick, nick-nick, nick-nick, nick,
Wizz-bong, Wizz-bong,
Mrs Gandi, yock, yock.

Ah, ooh, ha,
nick-nock, nock-nock, blublubluh,
Fwuuh, Bluuh, nuff, nyeh,
Nyag-nyag, wad-wad, Blululeyah!

When your boss is giving you the sack,
'Cause you've lost all his invoices,
Don't drink a bottle of sulphuric acid,
Relax, make stupid noises.

Just go,
Yo, yo, yo,
Mig, nick-nock, wogga, blululeyah,
Mizz-person that I find irritating, bing-bong,
Yickety, yickety, wick.

Ooh, fum, fom,
Nickety-nock,
Hoo, wong, Wiggly-wog,
Noo, noo, bliggley,
Nick-nock, blig-blog, Rheumatism!
