3 year contract almost agreed via James Pearce's Twitter. Excellent news, it's been a tough road back for him but he's definitely an important member of the squad.

EDIT: Link to Echo article http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-fc-defender-jon-flanagan-11054115

Expected to be all finalised tomorrow.

He exceeded expectations when he broke through and he's exceeded them since he came back. Absolutely deserved and looking forward to him having a full season hopefully next year.

Like him a lot.

He can really play, which a lot don't give him enough credit for.

But most of all, the sheer passion he brings everytime he steps on the pitch is just infectious for the whole team.

That really can't be underestimated.

We don't need world class players in every position, or world class players as backups.

He's perfect for this club.

Ability wise he isn't the best full back we've ever had. But the passion and determination he brings when playing for us makes him more than good enough to warrant this and a place in the team.

A lot like Jamie Carragher for me.

Fantastic stuff. He's incredibly popular in the dressing room too so I'm sure all the lads will be chuffed with this.

Just re-watched the video of his goal against Spurs, everyone (Suarez, hell even Sterling) looked absolutely amazed when he banged that in.

He has more ability than many give him credit for and like everyone says his passion and desire are unmatched. What I like most about him is that you get the idea that nothing bothers him, nobody scares him and he can handle big matches. Great news!

Worth it just so Evertonians can shut up about not having any Scousers in the team. They've enjoyed spouting about it in the ten minutes since Gerrard left.

Great news. The more I think about it, the more I believe he could go on to captain the club one day.

And another thing, he has plenty of ability. He isn't just here 'cos his ma makes a good pan of scouse.

He really has come back very well from such a long absence. It's probably helped that he never relied on his running ability in the first place.

Watching him in the 45 minutes he played for the u21s in midweek really highlighted just how good his decision making with his passing really is. Obviously he is likely to play against Southampton and I'm looking forward to it greatly.

Very pleased for him, he continues the link to the area that is vital but he is here on merit
