Claire's just bought that and she's absolutely in love with it. I'll get her to give you a more considered opinion on it tomorrow.

My first proper espresso machone was a Gaggia Cubika it eventually broke after 5 years so I upgraded to a Rancilio Silvia which should outlast me I'd recommend either depending on your budget as for grinders get a burr one and apparently the manual ones though hard work can be good as the worst thing you can do with coffee is turn burn it

I still think the best expresso machines are the stove top version

For the best coffee in London, the Algerian Coffee Store

thanks, although I think she wants the machine

for anyone who has one, I would recommend a "bombon" had them in spain a few months back, make your espresso then add condensed milk, lovely stuff!

Would def recommend the De'Longhi Icona.

I bought one around 6 months ago and for its price it produces a perfect espresso. The steam arm isn't as powerful as you'd get from a much more expensive machine but is decent enough for good milk frothing.

The Krups Expert, GVX231, Burr Coffee Grinder is great for the price (around £30) - no need to pay £100+ for one..

Anyone who owns a Dolce Gusto machine:  http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nescafé-Dolce-Gusto-Variety-capsules/dp/B002CIGCGY/ref=sr_1_1?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1292438711&sr=1-1

We have one and while they are generally nice, they're not as nice as the nespresso capsules. My sister has a machine that uses those, and they are in another league.

I was looking at them mate, then I found this:

http://www.tassimo.co.uk/discover/tassimo-machine-collection/tassimo-t40-machine%3A-more-than-just-a-classical-coffee-machine/894

It uses these little things called T Disks, I had a look all over the net and the reviews are quite good.

Problem is the T Disks are a little bit more expensive, but apparently they make amazing cups of coffee :wave

I have ended up buying one of these... Little on the expensive side, however seems to have had very good reviews. It uses the Pods, with many flavours of coffee. And will look damn good in the kitchen.

Nespresso just seems wrong.

Surely anything with pod's would be expensive over time.
+ you would not have as much choice in coffee.

I have a bog standard old Krups machine, its fantastic and about 7 years old.

Got the Gaggia version a few years ago. Top drawer.

You're right about the ongoing cost, but if you buy in bulk it seems no more expensive than normal coffee.

Piss easy and lovely coffee though.

I'm thinking of buying one after Christmas. £225 best price on Amazon, against RRP of £300. Reviews seem favourable, but does anyone know of a better machine in the <£300 price bracket?
