Any Baseball Lovers Around
« on: April 24, 2005, 07:28:34 pm »
After last years fantasy football had come to a disappointing end for me an american colleague of mine suggested a fantasy baseball league. I agreed and slowly started to get into it. Once I understood the rules and the nuances I found it to be a great game, well worth watching and excellent for a bit of fantasy competition. Naturally with the Mancs being linked with the New York Yankees my allegiance went to the arch enemies of the Yankees, The Boston Red Sox and, having ended the curse of the bambino the red sox went on to win last years world series. I was thinking about creating a rawk fantasy league on yahoo and was wondering how many people would be interested. Thoughts would be welcome but please no slagging off of baseball as many English people seem to do.

I'd be up for it. Never done a fantasy league before but I'd give it a go.
San Diego Padres fan myself.

I ran the equivalent of a "fantasy baseball league" for 15 years starting in 1988. There was a $150 entrant fee with 20 participants which equates to a $3000 pool if my maths are correct. I can't begin to tell you how popular it became and I was hard pressed to keep it at just 20 people because so many others wanted in. It's a lot of work but it renewed everyone's interest in the sport especially when there's a few quid to be won. Ideally though, it has to be done prior to the start of the season IMO.

I'd have a piece of that Phil.

Lived beside Fenway Park for a year, so I too am a Red Sox fan!

No money involved in this one, minimum of 5 people needed max of 20, as soon as I get at least 6 or 7 people interested I'll sign up for the league and post details. I figured an automatic offline draft would be best as it would be difficult to get everyone online at the same time.

Sportdaq king??? I did that for some time but gave up, half the time you never got paid your godamn win bonuses.

Oh and you can let the draft do itself if you want, means you get players in ranking order.

Came top of the charts one week for the highest weekly gain and acquired my own Sportdaq goodies bag.

Don't play it anymore though.
