What did everyone make of 'Sick of It' by Karl Pilkington? Thought it was really good overall but lacked a certain charm to it, was almost too negative even thiugh that's Karl.

Maniac has a great first act, but then gets lost in its own world and spends so much time throwing heavy cult references at you that you forget half of the story and plot. Rips up most of the foundations it has set, and pickles more red herrings than a blonde Icelander with a bad voice.

The resolution is pretty weak and had neverenderitis.

Go into it without expecting genre traditions is all I'd say. Expect a nostalgia-fest and guess the reference, and you might enjoy it.

The Purge TV show is so bad. Honestly annoys me how you can have such a good concept and continuously put out a rubbish final product.

I'm up to episode 6.  Pretty uncomfortable viewing at times.  I can't decide whether I like it or not.

New Netflix show for tonight... Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

Reimagines the origin and adventures of Sabrina: the Teenage Witch as a dark coming-of-age story that traffics in horror, the occult and, of course, witchcraft. Tonally in the vein of Rosemary's Baby and The Exorcist, this adaptation finds Sabrina Spellman wrestling to reconcile her dual nature - half-witch, half-mortal - while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit.

My eldest daughter's been looking forward to this and messaged me earlier to say it was really, really good and that I'd love it, too. But she's 14 and with a questionable grasp of what is good TV.

We started watching "A Discovery of Witches" but it's a bit 'meh'. Oxford looks amazingly beautiful, and when you start paying attention to the set, you know the script isn't too hot. What is hot is star Teresa Palmer.
A Tory, a worker and an immigrant are sat round a table. There's a plate of 10 biscuits in the middle. The Tory takes 9 then turns to the worker and says "that immigrant is trying to steal your biscuit"

It's a bit darker than I thought it would be. Enjoyed the first two though.

Yeah. I recently did a re-watch and the earlier seasons, especially 3-6 are hilarious. Got a few laughs this season (Charlie and Mac fighting kids, Frank's long legs) but nothing compared to the old ones.

I was really surprised by it. I keep an eye out for gems like this but even I didn't discover it till last year so watched the first 2 seasons in less than a week. It's not perfect and has plot holes but very surprised no UK broadcaster has picked it up compared to some of the crap that's on.

What first got my attention was Edi Gathegi, I've liked a few things he's done. The fact that a bit of it is based in Little Haiti also appealed as I have family from there so was curious to see how it was portrayed.

As for the show itself I liked all the characters and wanted to find out more about them. Ron Perlman is his normal brilliant self and the Martin Freeman character was brilliant. As I said on an earlier post yeah it has plot holes sometimes and they make some stupid decisions at times but they are in some desperate situations throughout the show. The character development is great, Edi Gathegi does a good job playing the Haitian gangster even if his accent can drift a bit  ;D

Oh and Otmara Marrero is stunning! I would watch it for her alone   ;D

It's a mess. They've tried, and failed.

Far too much screen time on one person (you get actually pissed off with her monologues), a half-baked supporting cast, torrid script that can't go five minutes without referring to... well I forgot, are they referring to KS or are they referring to FU? I think some have forgotten who is who in this programme.

An absolute awful choice for an anti-villain in Greg Kennear - that guy from the Spanish Prisoner who even made Steve Martin look interesting when he was playing straight.

Honestly, if you're a HOC fan - end it with 5 and go no more; the idea of Clare becoming P was always one they were going band about, but they are about 10-15 years too late with the whole female angle (Commander in/and Chief? Gina Davies?)... It smacks of liberal feminism (by men), and it is desperately trying to paint a fictional world where men and woman are equal, but then, not?

They should have seriously thought about just replacing Spacey with someone shit and addressing his leaving, actually in the show (as oppose to making him the white elephant)...

God awful climax to one of the best shows around (well, for all of two/three series' at least).

The problem with this? It got too political, trying to be too political. It's a fucking show for god's sake....

Homecoming on Amazon seems good so far (after 2/10) good acting and a sort of strangeness about it that I can't put my finger on

Julia Roberts insisted that Sam Esmail directed them all

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/26/arts/homecoming-julia-roberts-tv-podcast.html

[EDIT] Finished it now,  and happy to see it's got a 2nd series. A really great show. The story, writing and acting.

This explains the strangeness better than I can (and the score is great too - like a 70s TV show, in a good way)

Homecoming is not a show to watch with any other distractions. Put your phone away. Leave your chores for later. It demands complete attention. Not because the plot is hard to follow, but because so much of its storytelling is in the visuals. It doles out its story at a slow pace, yet the peculiar mood it creates is riveting. Half way through Trust.

Very good and some great snatches of period music from the time.

Just finished this last night and thought it was excellent. The guy who played Primo was fantastic, was menacing every scene he was in.

Just finished season 3 of The Man in The High Castle.  Easily the best season so far in my opinion.
