A guy at work says his brother owns an apartment next to Dublin port, and they have offered 3-4 times what it was worth a year ago.

Don't think so.
Everything regarding housing is absolutely fucked.
Too expensive to build, they don't build anything higher than 3-4 floors (residential), lots of land and real estate hoarded by vulture funds and Irish 'nobility' with next to no penalties, lot of old people living alone in big houses, Airbnb and on and on. There isn't a single thing that is good in the whole system and with government that employs 'wait and hope' policy - it's not getting better any time soon. Pretty annoying as the economy is doing well and it's a lovely country - but I may consider my plan to raise kids here.

Go West..... Life is better there.

That’s a fairly Dublin centric take.

Michael D could spend the campaign killing one random person a day and he'd still skate in.

In fact, I might suggest that strategy to him to liven up the campaign.

Maybe so but poor form and Gallagher is a fucking dick.

Well if you're still looking for city living but at cheaper prices then Galway and Cork are two great options. Beautiful cities with plenty to do in and around the cities themselves and only a short journey away from some majestic scenery and bountiful countryside. Not sure what line of work you are in but if there are jobs available there in your profession then consider either city. Dublin still only about 2 hours away from both options.

Brexit campaigning, both for and against, has been nothing but scaremongering though.

And in the spirit of David vs Goliath, why shouldn't the little guy throw the biggest stone in that fight? (The scaremongering I mean, not the actual act of violence!)

Next presidential election should have an examination element to determine that a candidate meets minimum knowledge requirement for the job before being added to the ballot paper.

Cos sure as fuck these gombeen county councils don't bother vetting candidates.

My family and I came over in 2016; we settled and bought in the Blackstairs, border of Carlow and Wexford. Youre an hour and a half from Dublin, but feel like you're on another planet. You can get a lot for your money, and the weather is markedly better than pretty much anywhere else in the country. If you're after an urban environment, have you considered Waterford, Wexford and the lovely Kilkenny? Sure, work isn't as easy to find, but fuck me it's beautiful, cheap and if you like a bit of isolation (whilst only being 20 mins from Aldi), you'd love it.

I love Dublin, but after near 20 years in London, have no desire to live there. It is commutable however.

Good Luck to ya!

So Michael D skates in with the racist non-tax-paying American coming in 2nd.

Dreadful result for Sinn Fein, who let's remember were the ones who drive this election in the first place and ended up with 1/3 of the vote of the racist dragon with no FF/FG candidate.

Just noticed that in an exit poll only 6% of voters felt that Michael D would stand up for ordinary people. That's shocking given the fact that he's spent his life campaigning on socialist tickets.

Interesting thing in relation to the latest opinion Poll that has seen FG hold at about 33%, FF at 25% and SF at 24%, small and micro Parties Inc. Indos are getting squeezed out and its a grand total of 9% for Renua/SDs/PBP/Sol/GP.

Next Election may be early 2019 and if those figures are true the Dail will see a much stronger block from the main three parities. Peadar Tóbaín leaving SF and another Cllr today will be intersting to see were he goes with his new platform. On top of that the confidence and Supply arangement is a fucking joke and FF need to get out of dodge, Martin is on very thin Ice these days and using Brexit to hang on in 'Government' is coming to an end.

FFer's must be very worried.

So FF and SDLP are potentially about to merge to produce the second cross island party. Do people think it will align, right of centre with a socialist party? Also interesting in an all island context. Thoughts?

Probably shouldn't be surprised by this, but it's still extraordinary - Sinn Fein showing their true colours again.

Quote
Sinn Féin President Mary Lou McDonald has defended the attendance of two senior party members at the inauguration of controversial Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro.

Ms McDonald said Mr Maduro’s election was “open and democratic” before drawing comparisons between poverty levels in Ireland and Venezuela.

More than 80pc of Venezuelans live below the poverty line. The EU has said Mr Maduro’s re-election “lacked credibility” and the US said it was a “sham” election.

Sinn Fein MLA Conor Murphy and general secretary Dawn Doyle attend events in Venezuela related to Mr Maduro’s re-election.

"Yes, we had representatives in Venezuela for the inauguration of the democratically elected president,”Ms McDonald said.

“Politics increasingly is reflective of the fact that we live in a global village. We were there as part of a delegation, we were there because we were invited and I’m very glad that two Sinn Féin representatives were in attendance,” she added.

Ms McDonald said it was for the people of Venezuela to decide who they want to be their president.

"There are people in this country who would not endorse Leo Varadkar on the basis that they have endured poverty...we also have to accepted that he is the Taoiseach."

“In this democracy you would have people who are very critical of Government of the basis that they are experiencing poverty and that they are having a hard time,” she added.

Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan said the Sinn Fein Leader’s comparison of Mr Maduro and the Taoiseach was “breathtaking brassneckery”.

I think I'd rather see the SDLP merge with the Irish Labour Party, seeing as they are their political bedfellows, so to speak.

Would make more sense but the SDLP have to do something to be more relevant in NI - they need all island volume. During the troubles they were always the more popular vote but since the GFA and beyond its become increasingly more difficult as SF have dictated the socialist and rational vote which meant the SDLP have to think differently. Probably too differently in this case.

Gazza let me tell you its Derry.

The other day I posted in the brexshit thread about a british border being an attack on the community of the island of Ireland (or in those words) but I don't want my kids, nieces and nephews growing up with the shit I had to. I remember some of the toughest places, Ardoyne and Moyard, and they were full of people with PTSD, men, women and children, everyday conversation with them was about who was murdered by the brits. Fuck the tories and anyone who enables brexit.

If anything resembling the Troubles ever kicks off again, it'll be born in Derry.

There's a new generation of Republicans being born there, born already maybe, who won't follow the previous logic that the PIRA did.

Yeah- no army bases down there now, a few police stations have been de-commissioned, not many targets left that the PIRA traditionally targeted.

These new Derry guys just look like more like the INLA and the Loyalist paramilitaries from the little I've garnered from the news.

Watching the footage just confirms what fucking half wits these new lot really are. Parking a car in full view of cameras in a public place where it could have killed anyone, including the muppets driving it. Looked like it was packed with firecrackers when it went off too. Seriously, not sure what they were hoping for there. Dickheads.
