Staying close enough to the Baltic Triangle, around Toxteth I think. But would be more than willing to go into town etc.

If you're close to the Baltic triangle then that's your best bet imho.

Lark lane is a taxi from Baltic Triangle

I'd second Lark Lane. Some good restaurants down there alongside more casual places, and a few of the bars stay open until 1-2 am. The Baltic Triangle is alright, its a bit more 'trendy', but I think more geared to late night revellers. It's also overpriced.

Depends what side of Toxteth you are on as well. No where is that far in a taxi though.

Best Italian in or around the city centre atm? Looking for somewhere to eat after the Palace game next weekend and Italian has the vote so far though I'd rather give mowgli a try!

Anyone have any info on the upcoming food market on Duke St?
There was a scouser on that million dollar restaurant on TV and his business is developing a site that looks like it's aiming to become a foodie destination with stalls (I think), restaurants, bars all under one roof. Heard it's opening April but beyond that don't know much more.

There is an element of jumping on the success that the Baltic Market with it. Though not a bad thing. I think it's great that some old abandoned buildings are being brought back to life this way.

Similar food markets like the one in Grand Central (though not been) have become the 'in' thing right now.

It's oversaturated if you ask me. I used to work in the Baltic Market and it was basically overpriced food that was very subpar compared to what you would get in the stalls respective restaurants, the bar was £4.50 for a pint and they played obnoxiously loud music on the weekends so that you couldn't even hear the pissed and fucking rude punters screaming their orders at you.

The shine wore off that, and now the other two food markets have opened (the one in Mann Island and the one in Grand Central), both of which are mostly empty and that have also served to empty out the Baltic Market so that they're all now dead.

Or maybe I'm just a miserable fucker. ;)

I Know what you mean about overpriced. Bought some Swedish doughnut thing and it was about £3. Then bought a few bits and pieces to take to my mum and dad's, would have been cheaper to pay for a taxi to town and back for them and then buy them lunch.

Hanover Street Social is superb (it was in the Michelin good food guide at one point - don't know if it still is?). Not been to Wreckfish.

Anyone been to Roski?

Not been there, but it seems to be one of those places where you need to book a long, long time before you go there.

How would people rate the most high end eating places in Liverpool?

I think the fact there are no Michelin star restaurants in Liverpool says a lot. Especially when there is never really any talk of one coming any time soon.

I hope Roski can change that. I've not been but know they had a rocky start. Taking full payment on booking rubbed people up the wrong way. That might be how things are done at the high end but came across as scousers not being trusted to pay on the night.

That being said it got a really good write up from Jay Rayner a couple of months ago so fingers crossed.

Never heard of that before (taking payment up front) must have been when they were starting out and maybe cash flow was tight.

Fraiche in Oxton Village had a star, but I think that's closed now, they were looking for much needed bigger premises (3 month waiting list)

Will be trying try Roski although its very pricey so would be have to be a one off...

Went to Marco Pierre White for Sunday lunch and it was really very good, 4 of us had three courses and each one of mine was lovely. Eldest daughter had a Meercat 2-4-1 deal so it was actually pretty good value. Drinks are expensive but that's true in most restaurants, the bill was about £90 excluding drinks. We plan on going again but ordering off the full menu and not the Sunday roasts as they have some nice looking main courses. Service was fine.

The price for ale was scandalous, only to be exceeded by last years LIMF.

Yeah I never understood the attraction of paying an entrance fee in order to spend even more money on expensive food and overpriced ale.

As for LIMF, I was out of the country when all the shithouses came down causing mischief. LIMF's biggest mistake was changing the dates so it no longer coincided with Creamfields. Didn't go last year because I wasn't paying into that to spend £5 on plastic cups of Carlsberg and listen to some big pop name do a 15 minute headline set.

Africa Oye still reigns supreme, until they find a way to ruin that.

Did I mention I'm a miserable bastard?!  :o

Blackburn Eatery on Allerton Road is great - got a massive plate of nachos with chilli and cheese on top then a salt and pepper chicken burger with loaded fries (topped with peppercorn steak pieces). Really reasonable prices.
