Applaud the man when he comes towards the Kop make him feel in fear/respect and in awe of us. If he fails to respond give the man as much shit as you can for 96 minutes.

That way we justify what the Kop is about

Dont lower yourselfs

The Man Utd game is on the 3rd of March  ;)

I think he should get a round of applause as is tradition. But I fully expect Rafa to play Crouch and any corners should swing high into the six yard box and anybody taking a short corner should be shot.

I guess it all depends on why you think you are clapping the oppositions keeper.

Is it to encourage them? Not likely, no matter who we are playing!

I always think it is more to do with respect - not for them as people or indeed players, but more along the lines of the admiration felt for the condemned man who refuses a blindfold as he walks to the gallows.

We are Liverpool, attacking the Kop end, and that is (or should be!) the worst nightmare any keeper has to face. The kings in red bearing down on his goal, while behind him the massed legions bay for his blood... any man brave enough to willingly walk into that deserves a round of applause before the battle commences.

Ace.  You see its all in the mind.  I'm not supporting or encouraging him, he's a condemned man.  I pity the fool…  ;)

If he plays, I'll personally give the lad a round of applause as Ive always done with opposition keepers.

For me he was / maybe still is the best in the prem until the injury. To come back from a fractured skull within 4 months and to play top flight footy is miraculous, I know this (not top flight football obviously  ;D)

I dont see in him the arrogance usually associated this lot (could be wrong) he 'appears' to rise above it.

Anyway lets hope its his back giving him jip rather than his head come 2:30/2:45 or whatever fooking time Sly sports decide the game will end?

we should sign duncan ferguson on a 1 week contract if chech is playing. Tell him to go in on the keeper at every opportunity. Hell shit himself more times than the bad guys when the a-team arrive on the scene.

Don't think Cech will play but if he does we should give him the respect that we give all goalkeepers who come down to The Kop it's been a tradition for years what's the point of breaking it now ?

Praise from Chelsea fans...

The news that Petr Cech is likely to return at Anfield will be welcomed by all the Chelsea support.

The manner in which Jose Mourinho teased the press corps by announcing that he'd have a Ł50 million player available was, in its own way, pure theatre. However, Jose wasn't wrong.

Cech's return will give an added assurance to the defence, his mere presence will allow the back four to concentrate on their defensive roles rather than have half a mind on whether Hilario is coming or going. In a way returning to first team action in front of the Kop is an act that could probably only be beaten by Cech making his long awaited return at Stamford Bridge.

Although it pains me to say it, the Koppites are amongst the most knowledgeable supporters around (that last line was bloody painful to write) and we here at Vital Chelsea have no doubt that, despite playing for Chelsea - a team Liverpool despise, Cech, on running towards the Kop, will be given a standing ovation.

What happened to Cech highlighted the frailty of us all. An innocuous looking challenge almost ending up not only ending his career but terminating his life. Much has been written about the incident and it's probably best to leave the events of that well be, however, it looks like there will be a permanent reminder available for all to see for some time to come.

Cech has been training wearing a specially adapted piece of headwear. It looks likely that, for the foreseeable future, it will become a familiar part of his kit. In time, there is probably a risk that those of a less sensitive persuasion will seek to make commercial gain from marketing replica Cech headgear. Quite how that will be received remains to be seen.

However, as his comeback draws ever nearer, I for one cannot wait to hear the ovation he'll get from all those packed within Anfield.

Been going to Anfield since 64 and am a proud Kop season ticket holder

For any of you doubters in this thread or the ones watching the game on television

Just listen to the applauding for Petr Cech it will probably be the loudest this season

Can honestly say i have never heard anyone around me on the Kop Boo an oposing keeper

The only time i have ever heard abuse is when the keeper turns his back on the applause

On the balance of things, you're right, but I'd be pretty certain he'd reciprocate any sporting gesture given to him as he approached the Kop. I have to cling to some hope that not everyone is completely submerged in cynicism, be it players or supporters.

The great dane was alright in the begining, in the early days he's come out clapping the KOP, in the end when his mind had been poisend by Taggert, he just ignored us. That's why I lost repsect for the c*nt & booed him.

Applause. It dignifies our support, and I'm scratching my head to understand why anyone would suggest otherwise. If the goalie ignores it, we know he's only pretending, and the fact that he fails to acknowledge the gesture will affect him. If he claps back, good on him, because he knows he's going to get pelters for the next 45 minutes.

I can remember Les Sealey getting abuse for not clapping back and rubbing his thumb and fingers together to let us know he had money and we never.

Anyway, did Cech get a clap today and did he reciprocate it?

It was an attempt at mind games by jose today. Chech doesnt need a headguard, as if in the insurers would let him play if he wasnt fit. And as if a 1cm peice of foam will make a difference.

It was mind games, and it worked. None of our players challenged him once.

I thought that when I heard about the headgear, especially as aparently he's 100% fit... hmm.
