Did he do anything wrong though tonight? Don't get all the slate. His cross at the end for Agger was a good one.

not much wrong but he brings nothing to the game.  Would prefer someone younger can benefit from game time instead of playing Cole.

Makes one and scores one.... and people are wondering why he was brought on today? have a word with yourself...

I think people here can compare Cole to a broken clock that's right twice a day, unfortunately there have to be 719 attempts before he has another good game.  So many on here look at the past at the expense of the future.

We already have him as a player - we know we're shot on depth, the transfer window was all kinds of fucked up.. is that Cole's fault?

My fear is that he is getting the sense that he will get game time under Rogers, and therefore not be interested in a transfer.

Though he was anonymous for the most part, there was one bit of skill that displayed some of his old brilliance, Shelvey drove a ball at him with venom and he controlled it first time, not many of our players through the years can/ could do that.

People shouldn't worry that he is actually playing right now, he's arguably worthy of this place when you really think about it.  But even if you don't want to give him that he obviously has no future at the club.

Let's use our great Aquilani as an example (Mods, can we have another Aquilani thread, just for old times sake???)

Anyway, tricky player, has all the wonderful skills and performed pretty well in pre-season games or those few times we saw him in a Liverpool jersey.  Wasn't given a chance because he was on the "Need to sell" list.

Messi Cole, tricky player (during his West Ham days), Messique skills and I can't remember him in pre-season... gets games ahead of younger talents who could actually benefit from the game time.

If we are looking to change the game, throwing in Cole as a sub is almost the same as giving Drowing a first team spot...  Was it 2 touches yesterday, turning radius of an oil tanker, might have a good pass or two but Charlie Adam also had some quality passes...

Speaking of Aquilani, he reportedly seems to be playing well for Fiorentina lately. He could have been an asset for us in the no.10 spot this season but was sacrificed by the owners to `balance the books'. We seem to have offloaded the players who coul dhaev actually made a difference - e.g. Meireles, Aquilani, Kuyt - and stll retain on our books COle and Downing.

I don't think that Aquilani left for footballing reasons, I think he had a problem acclimatising to the UK.

SSN saying Cole is on 'Arry's wish list!! Wonder how much we'll end up giving them?

How much of this is lazy journalism based on the fact that we play them today?

Looking at QPR's squad its hard to see where Cole would fit in.

Taarabt
Wright-Phillips
Granero
Dyer
Hoilett
Faurlin

No idea who's in 'Arry's plans but given the state of their squad and 'Arry's complaints about the ridiculous wages I just dont see any QPR interest as anything more than paper talk/ car window shite.

Also they're not short of forwards with all of the following in the squad.

Cisse
Johnson
Zamora
Mackie
Bothroyd
Campbell
Hulse

Looking at the rag order of their squad I'm of the opinion that 'Arry wasn't brought in to battle relegation but to wheel and deal the squad into some sort of sense for the Championship.

Not the most reliable source but The Metro was stating he's looking for a £3.6m pay-off from us to go.

That's to be expected.
Just like the Aquilani deal, we might use whatever money we get for him to pay him off so he'll accept smaller wages elsewhere.

Joe Cole has been very dignified during his time at Anfield and could never be criticised for not making a contribution when called upon. His skills have not really had the opportunity to come to the fore, mostly due to injury but also as a result of the managerial changes and tactical variations that have taken place while he has been here.
I hope that someone like QPR will take him on so that he make a contribution and have a good run to the end of his playing days.

Might be a good deal for all concerned if we pay him off at 50% of his contract wages if true
Come the summer with Carra 's contract also ending this might give us another 100k a week towards new players
Hope Carra stays as a coach in Meleood though

Honestly I'd say it would be the best move, what we would save in the long run.... Also would give Suso, maybe Pacheco and if nice is coming in more of an opportunity without joe blocking their progress. But yes joe has conducted himself very very well, and this needs to be appreciated more I think

£3.6million pay off for Cole and what £4million (ish) transfer fee we get for Downing would go to him as well makes for a very hard hit to the pockets.

I would hope if Joe Cole does leave Liverpool in January a transfer fee is involved,  it wouldn't surprise me though that to compensate is high wages that just to get him off the payroll Liverpool offer him on a free.

Christian Pursloe we have to thank for this, his football manager skills on his Xbox where put into reality in that little stink post H+G / pre FSG.

Also not forgetting his involvement in getting certain players to go against Rafa and putting one of them on a £90k a week 2 year deal the day before John W Henry took over.

Joe Cole: West Ham set to sign Liverpool star by Friday
By David Ornstein BBC Sport

Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole is expected to complete his move to West Ham in time for Saturday's FA Cup tie with Manchester United at Upton Park.

The 31-year-old will undergo a medical on Thursday and is set to rejoin his former club on an 18-month contract.

Cole must be registered by 12:00 GMT on Friday to face Mr. Ferguson's men.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers said: "He is speaking with West Ham and if they can get something organised it will be a terrific move for Joe."

Cole has struggled to impress at Anfield following a free transfer move from Chelsea in 2010.

The former England international spent last season on loan at French club Lille.

Any move to West Ham would have to be permanent because the London club already have one Liverpool player on loan - striker Andy Carroll - and are prevented from adding a second.

Cole, though, would be available on a free transfer as Liverpool are prepared to cancel his contract and negotiate a settlement.

Talking on Wednesday, Rodgers added: "I spoke to Joe earlier. He is a really good lad and has been brilliant during my time here."

The player came through the youth ranks at Upton Park before moving to Chelsea for £6.6m in 2003.

He won three Premier League titles and two FA Cups in a seven-year stay with the Blues.

After failing to agree a new contract he moved to Merseyside but has not been able to enjoy the same impact and has made only six substitute appearances this season.

News of Cole's potential move comes after Liverpool signed forward Daniel Sturridge from Chelsea.

QPR have also been linked with Cole, but manager Harry Redknapp told BBC Radio 5 live he was resigned to missing out.

"I love Joe," he said. "I signed him when he was 11 years old at West Ham and I spoke to him. He was keen to come and he is a great lad.

"He would be great around the place - he is a great player - but West Ham came in at the last moment and it was difficult because West Ham is his club and you will always associate Joe with them.

"That is where he started out. The fans will love having him back there and I wish him all the best because he is a fantastic boy."

What is strange when looking at Joe Coles facts on the BBC site people said he was really good for Lille.

But his stats for us are about the same when you look at goals to games.

Joe Cole's career

West Ham: 150 appearances, 13 goals
    Chelsea: 282 appearances, 39 goals
    Lille: 38 appearances, four goals
    Liverpool: 42 appearances, five goals
    England: 56 appearances, 10 goals

But I personally will be glad to see the back of him.

Nothing against Joe Cole but it's been a nightmare since he signed. Rafa was right in telling Purslow to fuck off when Purslow mentioned about signing him before Arsenal away in his last season as manager.

Cost the club so much money that could've been spent better in alot better places.

Good luck to the lad - he'll do well for West Ham.
