Is that you?

Princess Anne's favourite car, and possibly the best vehicle Reliant ever made and quite innovative for its time.

Hatchback, 3 litre v6 so adequately pokey, and also quite elegantly styled.

I can't quite place that.

At a guess I've been trying from around Everton Brow and then points west with no joy, so much has changed just in the last 30 odd years, though it could be taken somewhere Dingle direction.

That church(?) pyramid type roof on the skyline behind the lads might be familiar to someone and allow it to be placed...Tsar? Richie?

I was a bit bothered that the street - which looks, on the b&w photo, as if it slopes away - was level, but from your positioning I can see from the brickwork that there is a gradient, so that's good.

I've spent a bit of silly time looking at this in the last 2 days and I'm not convinced :)

Look at the backdrop that appears to be the Wirral, I can't see any of that in the google link guys.

Oh ye of little faith....

Have a look at the attached comparisons, it might help.

The problem with comparisons between old pics and new(certainly using Google Street) is the difference in focal length of a lot of the camera lenses, which leads to a forshortening of perspective in older photographs compared to new ones. Distant things (like the far side of the river) appearing nearer in older photographs typically due to the longer focal length of the lenses used.

Anyway, the maisonettes on the left in the older photo below, 'D' have long gone.

However, the house 'A' is still clearly identifiable, windows and chimney pots, as is the the spire in the distance 'B'.

And if you go down the road towards 'B'  in streetview you'll eventually see the roofline match to 'C'

That Old Swan one hasn't really changed that much since then ... https://goo.gl/maps/SpjmfAavBo8bfiFn6

late :)

That's a very atmospheric shot and looks vaguely familiar to me.

I remember back in the very early 60's, probably for some reason to do with her own childhood, my Mum occasional insisted that we all go off to afternoon Sunday Mass in St Augustines, long gone but a particularly impressive dark Gothic church that inside was full of splendid marble features. I think it was situated on the corner of Little Howard Street and Great Howard Street. We used to all pile in our car and drive down from West Derby using lots of cobbled back roads on the journey, quite possible even going by way of Sylvester Street on occasions. A lot of the area seemed pretty rough back then.

I didn't mind doing the Mass bit as it gave me an opportunity to neb the little steam engines on the Dock Railway and soak up the general busyness of the docks in those days, though being a Sunday, it was usually very quiet with not much to see.

I don't think it's Poets Park, the house arrangements around it are very different to the original photo.

Re Klondyke, there's drone footage of the area here...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfrDrBOsQ2A

There is a park on the edge of the estate glimpsed in it a few times but again it doesn't seem to align with the original photo so I'm not sure that photo was of there.

In my search though, I found great little site here ... https://www.bootlehistory.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=32466 with lots of old photos I've never seen before  from around the Bootle area and some slightly beyond.

Well worth a browse through.

I'm having little joy with this.

I've been looking on an old A-Z from around 1970 to try and spot a green rec that fits with the housing arrangement and just can't find any.

The nearest to a possible location is here though I'm unconvinced unless that photo was taken pre-68 before the New Strand building was completed in the background. Screenshot attached below if link not working. However the proportions look about right and obviously the houses around are all new, I assume replacing the old terraced ones in the old picture now long demolished.

The school at the back of the rec now, Christ Church, appears to have been relocated from another spot sometime in the late 60's(?), so may well have aquired that rec as their playing field as part of the rebuild.

This, the one on the right, was the old building back in '66 I think.. (from the ever useful  inacity)

(I've tried looking from the other direction but the houses don't match up, windows etc).

But honestly, no other idea as to where it could have been at the moment I'm afraid.

Sadly those houses on the left don't match up at all, that's their rears.

In the original the houses and the streets they are on are aligned at 90 degrees to the rec, see attachments.

In the third attachment below, I've enlarged the detail at the far end of the rec/field. It looks like it could be a temporary classroom perhaps?

Maybe that field always did belong to Christs Church and that broken fence behind the swings was simply a bit of vandalism.

But I'm honestly uncertain and not at all confident.

Has anyone ever heard of Penistone/Pennystone Terrace? Not sure of the spelling.
I believe it was in the Great Howard st area and might have been demolished around 1960.
I've looked on old maps and done google searches, but can't find anything.
Any help greatly appreciated  :wave

EDIT...
Done a bit more checking now I've got home and have found that Penistone Terrace, Townsend St, did indeed exist.
Just got to try and track down a photo now  :)

In my unsuccessful browsings for any pics about Penistone above, I came across the attached 1908 Anfield Road shot from here

A quick stroll with streetview reveals that house with the distinctive brickwork on the right is still around.

Dave used to post on here for a while around 8 or so years ago, https://www.redandwhitekop.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=6852

On your question, not sure if you saw this... http://www.yoliverpool.com/forum/showthread.php?7980-Newport-Street-Kirkdale

About 3/4 the way down the page there's a couple of photos of what remains of part of the road today.

And in here... http://www.yoliverpool.com/forum/showthread.php?2598-Gardens-Tenements-and-Courts/page9

There's someone back in 2008 ( Browniescorner) out in Australia asking exactly the same question as yourself.

Hi,
Any pics of Pennistone Terrace or Newport Terrace? Pennistone was off Townsend st & Newport was off Newport st.
Would love to see any pics or info.

Sadly, it doesn't look as if anyone answered though.

Liverpool FC with the FA Cup at Lime Street Station, Liverpool. 1965

Notice how the vehicle access was on the left hand side of the station back then.

I saw the loco in the Museum of Liverpool last year, took my dad with me and he was chuffed to see the Overhead Railway exhibit (in the background) as it brought back so many memories for him. Its well worth a visit.
