Barca was my first Euro away and I've been a supporter since 1973.  I then went to the Sheffield game.

I guess it takes all kinds.

Perfect place to start - Middlesborough at home Wednesday 18th April but how many will? Seems some people now wanna start with a massive European away tie that even seasoned matchgoers find it difficult to get tickets for. Then having gone, ticketless or not, they decide to act like complete c*nts. No getting away from it mate, that's the way it was in Barca this time. Hadn't seen it certainly in two other visits to Barca and only to a much lesser extent in other Euro aways in the past six years. It's changed mate, it has, for the worse.
96 Liverpool fans lost their lives at Hillsborough. Thousands more were deeply affected. The Sun said Liverpool fans robbed their own dead and urinated on policemen and other fans doing their best to save them. The Sun said Liverpool fans were to blame for causing the crush by turning up ticketless and drunk. The Sun told lies. DON'T BUY THE SUN!

I agree with what Evo says and am disappointed to hear his stories on Onthekop.com about some of our fans in Barca.

Luckily, I did not come across it and meet some amazing lads (old mates and new mates).

I think because Europe is so easy to get too, armchairs see it as a few days with lads and the football is an aside.

It frustrates me that people call themselves supporters and cannot conduct themselves abroad or even when asking for spares.

And also, they do things like read the S*n - that defies belief.

Kind of agree with Evo and kind of disagree. Barca was full of twats. Lots of them (scousers and OOT's alike) and I personally didn't enjoy it anywhere near as much as I should've (though the thieving c*nts had something to do with that as well). That said inside the ground was immense, the ticketless twats were stuck in a bar and we had around 25 of us all together, coupled with the result made it superb.

We need a UEFA cup run with a few in eastern europe. 90% wouldn't go.

What he said. Can't see it happening for a while though.

Now you see Ste, this is where I disagree with you. The Barca games in 2001 and 2002 had a different type of feel and I'm sure a different type of fan in that I recognised nearly everybody I came across because they were regular match goers and were going the match but making a holiday of it in Barca while they were there. The latest Barca match seemed to be the exact opposite in that we have picked up so many "nouveau fans" since 2002 that the jolly japing seemed to come first and the match second as if they couldn't care less whether we won or not as long as they'd let their friends back home know they'd been on a European adventure. I didn't recognise half the people I saw in Barca and am very glad to say I wouldn't care less if I never see them again but somehow I think I will.

But Pete wasn't one of those Barcas your first Euro away in donkeys years? Seem to remember bumping into you on the Ramblas and others making a big fuss out of you being there.

In fairness Jo whilst I agree with the rest of your post, there quite easily could've been some sort of incident given the amount of dickheads present.

Phil - Barca was always likely to attract the "beauts", homegrown, wools and OOTs, just as it did in 2001 and 2002. In fact I'd say out of all the Euro aways I've been to it was my least favourite just for that reason.

People do what they do.simple.
some haven't got funds to go to all euro aways,so barca away is an attractive one to choose.
some can't get holidays for all aways.
some,quite a few,opted to give Gala away a 'miss'.
when we draw teams like barca, everyone wants a piece of the action.and it's always been the same.

I had a great time in Barca and to be honest couldn’t care less how many red's went, with or without tickets.  Not my problem and I never seen anything to make me cringe, maybe that’s because of the bars I went to and the people I hung out with.

Doesn’t bother me in the slightest, if people want to travel just to be with their mates or sample the atmosphere then good for them, they're doing no harm to me and I certainly didn’t' look round thinking 'beauts'

I’ve been going to euro away regularly for years, I spent many a season going to the great UEFA Cup destinations, I’ll go wherever we’re playing but then not everyone is as fortunate to be able to do that.  If Barca was their only trip then good for them, I hope they enjoyed it.

Why do some of you feel the need to justify your support or the reason why you've been there?

I had a boss trip and a great time in Barcelona.........of course you can spend your whole time out there spotting whoppers, beauts etc. or you can just have a good time with your mates and enjoy yourself as much as possible. I've seen lots of pricks out there...throwing cans in Place Reial....giving shit to locals.....but i don't let them get me down or ruin my trip.

Every european away is as good as you make it.

To be honest I really don't care whether Barca was somebody's 1st or 201st Euro away as long as they behaved themselves. It was how some people were being absolute c*nts that was bothering me and it did seem to come mostly from people I've never seen at any Liverpool match ever. Can't agree that there were the same type of beauts in 2001 and 20002. I haven't missed too many Euro aways since that time and it has deffo changed. I wasn't "beaut spotting" and I don't think anybody else was either. You didn't have to "spot" them - most times they were in your face, you just couldn't get away from them no matter how good your own general company was.

Well if I can find the cash I will be going without a ticket.

Not complainig one iota, I go most games in this country home and away but the honest truth is that this is the first european away I've been in a possible position to be able to afford all season so I'm gonna go and enjoy a laugh with mates etc and have a good time. Of course I can see why it pisses people off when wankers go and act the c*nt, being general dicks but not everyone who goes without a ticket is like that and I'd wager a lot of the c*nts in Barca will have had tickets for the match as well.

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

At the end of the day I had people who haven't been to Anfield in their lives wanting tickets for the home leg, some not even Liverpool fans so if these people do manage to get sorted off their mates etc then it isn't a surprise when they go to some place like Barcelona, get bevvied and act the c*nt.
