Welcome to Liverpool, Fabio Carvalho
« on: May 23, 2022, 10:02:51 am »
Liverpool FC can confirm Fabio Carvalho will join the club this summer.

The 19-year-old forward will officially complete a switch to the Reds on July 1.

Carvalho played a key role in Fulham’s promotion back to the Premier League in 2021-22, scoring 10 goals and providing eight assists in 36 games as Marco Silva’s side won the Championship title.

He had featured for the Cottagers in the top flight on four occasions in the previous season, marking his first Premier League start with a goal away at Southampton in May 2021.

An exciting talent born in the Lisbon region of Portugal, Carvalho made his debut for Portugal U21s in March of this year having previously represented England at youth level.

Carvalho came through the academy ranks at Fulham and went on to make 44 senior appearances in total for the London club.

Not a bad team to be coming into, and not a bad strikeforce to be learning from

11 goals and 8 assists for the Championship winners at 19, and English. If his contract wasn't expiring thats a good £20-30 million  8)
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

Carvalho viewed by Liverpool as a forward option, capable of playing anywhere across the frontline - and crucially as a No.10, if Klopp opts to go with four attackers within games.

He won't be loaned out next season.

He'll be our first player of South/South East Asian descent to play for our first team I believe?

I read somewhere that he’s of Timorese descent. Quick google search led me to East Timor close to Indonesia. Probably links to Portugal from centuries ago?

All a bit of an education to be honest (and to be fair I need to get more clued up on it!).

Portugal had Goa in India as part of their empire, I'm guessing his background is from Goa, some Indians in that region still have Portuguese names like the Indian Hollywood actress Frida Pinto who's from Goa.

Looks like Crosby Nick solved it. :D

Exciting stuff, now to see who joins him from next season. A lot has been said about the young right back from Scotland and the fact we're interested in a midfielder. Early days though.

Very excited by this signing, said last summer that he was one of a few young players in the Championship that I hoped we'd be keeping an eye on and he's had a brilliant season with Fulham. Read and heard nothing but really positive things about him, he looks like a player with a very high ceiling and he's joining the ideal club and will work under the perfect manager to help him reach his potential.

Welcome to the best club in the world!  :scarf

This lad is mustard. We have a very exciting future with him, Curtis and Harvey, and Jota and Diaz

I think after the league title win a couple of years back there was quite a few becoming concerned with the age of the squad but I think it's looking very good. We have loads of great players who are 25 and under, including those you just mentioned, Trent and Konate are 23, we have a very good young keeper in Kelleher who's also 23, and Joe Gomez only just turned 25 today despite being around for years. I'd also expect most of the players we're going to bring in until Klopp leaves will be early/mid twenties when signed.

It's not really an old squad by any means. Other than Milner you have the likes of Matip and Van Dijk who are nearly 31, but I'd like to think with Van Dijk especially that he has a good few years ahead of him. Henderson and Thiago are also in that 'ageing' category but I'd expect our next big acquisition to be in central midfield.
