Madness to be writing Jose or Chelsea off at this stage.
That's not to say that they don't have issues, though. The striker situation is a strange one indeed. In Sturridge and Lukaku Chelsea had two young, potentially world class strikers and they chose to let both leave, long and short term respectively, opting instead to rely on two ageing, past their best, former world class strikers. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but as each day passes those decisions look increasingly bizarre.
To illustrate the point, in 21 appearances for Liverpool Daniel Sturridge has scored as many goals (17) as Torres, Ba and Eto'o combined have managed in 102 appearances for Chelsea. Lukaku, meanwhile, equaled those three in 35 appearances for West Brom last season.
So, Sturridge and Lukaku combined, scored twice as many goals as Torres, Ba and Eto'o in just over half the number of games, and for (arguably) weaker teams.
And that's without getting onto the equally baffling situation with Mata.
