Godrick got grafted on my katana. Not a very tough boss, his second stage was a breeze. Then I had very joyfull ten minutes thinking I'll slap his rune and get a +5 boost on everything, only to find out it's unlocked by a rare consumable and lost on dying. Yeah, well, that's a bit useless and will only serve as a rare boost for boss fights. On to pillage everything left in Limgrave.

Ok, I'm beyond help. Had no idea you need a specific Ash of war to remove the shield Parry and have your weapon AOW along with the shield. Pretty much played everything so far without the help of AOW's.  Time to slice things up.

The academy was a bit of a letdown, looked huge from the outside but it's quite small and linear once you get in. Hopefully the other dungeons are more similar to Stormveil.

What’s a good level to tackle the Academy?

It was the second area I went to (Liurnia at least). Think I beat Godrick at 31 and moved on. The early parts of the Academy were harder than the areas before the boss I thought!

Maybe get a fire-imbued weapon and try to take on the dragon at the west of the map first for some lovely Runes.

Godrick was easy compared to some of the bosses you can meet. Some of the dragons are evil.

Finished my first run this afternoon. 100.5 hours!!! Student me would've cleared that in a week.

The first thing I did was eject the disc from PS5 and have a breather

I didn't know that the NG+ was like in Sekiro where you activate it at a save point, I was worried that it would throw me straight into it like other Dark Souls games. There's one or two roaming dragon bosses I could still take out so I think I'll do that but I can't see myself doing NG+ for a while.

Regarding the ending,

I got the Ranni questline ending and had no idea wtf I was watching, so might seek a more cohesive ending for a next playthrough. I never met Goldmask at all so think I'll pursue his one in my next game.

The boss I got the most tilted with was Malekith, with an Evergaol boss Alecto coming second. Margit, Godrick and Radahn all seem like pretty fun iconic fights that will stand the test of time for the series.

Started this last night as a Samurai, just beat the mad pumpkin head in the dungeon. Absolutely gorgeous game, it is brutal though especially after having a break from the Souls style of game for a while.

I see they’ve ‘nerfed’ the Fallingstar Beast found in the Selia Mine.  He was destroying me last week, tried last night and beast him comfortably.  He no longer has a second stage and doesn’t attack you the minute you go through the mist.  Drops some good loot, Somber stones and a bell bearing.  Getting to him is a bit rough mind. I’ve put 70 hours into this in less than three weeks, bloody game is starting to invade my dreams.

I do wish you could unlock the Bell Bearings for normal stones a little bit sooner. Feels like they're always a zone ahead of where they should be, and there's no option to farm them really. Not sure about the Somber ones, they seem a bit easier to come by but I might be biased.

Melania kicks my ass every way since sunday, about 100 times and I just saw a video of a guy roll and dodge every single one of her attacks and beat her with a shield and one spell

It does seem like by the time you get the bell bearings you don’t actually need them anymore.  Luckily I went on to A somber stone weapon early on so largely ignored the normal stones.

Went on a meticulous cleanup of Limgrave and Peninsula, then roamed around Liurnia and decided to tackle the Academy. Thought it would be harder, really wasn’t. Most challenging enemy was the knight guarding the elevator to the queen, who parried me almost to death. I might re-spec myself now to have more FP and explore Liurnia fully.

I found the knight relatively easy, struggled with the Red Wolf more.  Small space and he’s lightening quick,  beat the Queen second go.

That is indeed the aim and I’m failing at it miserably. 40 hours in and I look like I get my gear in a second hand shop. Just a desperate collection of ‘slightly better stat’ items tweaked to a hair below the fat roll margin.

Speaking of clothing, is it me or is armor in general not as important as before? I find the difference between medium and heavy to be almost negligible. This might have already been the case in DS2 and DS3 which I haven’t played - but compared to DS1 it’s very noticeable.

I died in the open world fighting dragons with about 550k runes after defeating the final boss and was shitting myself heading back to pick them up in Caelid

I had that bastard with a sliver of health left. Maybe one or two more hits. 2 hours later I still couldn’t kill him. I’ll get him tonight though.

Honestly, I landed about a dozen arrows on him - that’s all. Was mostly running around on horseback and raising to life my fallen distraction decoys. Wish I could have summoned Oleg as he would make mince meat out of him. You need a bit of luck as he has a number of one-shot attacks.

Guess I have to explore Caelid now, or Altus plateau. Found a path towards the mountain that clearly feels like a place I should avoid for now.

Basically you can use it to transport you back to the last bonfire/resting place you were at.  I usually use one after beating a Boss so I can spend my hard earned souls (or runes in ER case).

I don't think it does because you can just Fast Travel when not in a fight. If you're in a boss fight, just Start > Save & Quit and you'll spawn outside the boss arena with Runes if you picked them up inside (good tip).

What a moment. 🤣  I’m entering Siofra Aqueducts and I spot a Crucible knight patrolling. So I set myself on a beam crossing above his bridge and smack him with a greatarrow. He gets upset, tries to compute how to get me then activates his wings and falls short slightly in front of me then tumbles into the abyss. 😁
