The most surprising thing for me was how well-dressed everybody was .......... I don't recognise any streets but I think Church St featured.

Where I grew up, used to play around the flats in the opening scenes and the Ricky Tomlinson look a like lived about 100yds from us

Tough watching that Rob..reminded me of a clip i'll have to dig out about the social cleansing in Liverpool,more tough scenes to watch but part of our history now.

I was showing the kids last night, they couldn't believe it. I now live in a nice area, the kids have never seen anything like that. Lived on Tower Hill from 1969 until 1987. Luckily my Ma met a fella from Southport on a Christmas night out in town and we all moved in with him. Me and our kid would have gotten out of it, but I would have hated to leave my Ma on that estate. Plenty of lovely people blighted by a few c*nts.

Aye Rob,it only takes a few little shits to bring chaos to a community.
This is the vid i was referring to..not really what made me start the thread but interesting & it shows clearly how the few people who make decisions effect a whole community & would be very easy to see how folk could break under the changes.

There was a whole carriage the same in the museum in town,been a few years since i have been,hopefully still there..must have been a bit of a boneshaker that.

Commentator in that says that every 7th house has been vandalised, daily damage of 5000 Marks, which was around £1500 I think. The lads at the start offer to smash a few windows or nick a car for cash and good images.

All the houses on the estate were lived in and to be honest most people kept them nice. Those flats, if my memory is right there were 7 blocks and also what we called the Black and White flats (that was the colour of the cladding), were condemned when they were about 10 years old and they got smashed to bits. We used to play in them, smashing the windows and stuff like that, until they got demolished in the mid 80's. The film crew just had to wait til the night, there were always robbed cars getting dumped and burnt out.

Brilliant mate, the first from 1896 is astonishing.

The second really is a sign of the times back then immediately after de-regulation of buses. You can play spot the operators there. Great stuff.

Yep they are the ones. We lived in Ravenscroft and I thought our house was going to come down. Loads of those nearby houses got damaged if I remember right.
