Yeah motherfuckers, ignore the touch, turn and finish from Bergkamp and just admire the pass from De Boer.

Almost went with him instead of Nedved -- but had no idea you were in for him (Hazell did the very same with Signori) for me.

You'll find your pairing - but ironically they are both outside marking backs by trade in the 90's (Bergomi on the right and Maldini on the left).  Although they can both play CB and play it well :)

Where did that come from?  Is there some Dutch hate going on that I am missing?

Michael Caine on board here?

spot on, Maldini will be taking up the CB role in my team, he wont be wasted at LB :) Burrows can cover that ;)

Nah just reminding everyone how good De Boer was, he doesn't have the sexy good looks of Maldini wans wasn't brought up with catenaccio that people have been eulogising about. Yet he was a top class defender and I won't hold him having to be replaced by Roy Hodgson at Crystal Palace against him.

Hazell and Tubby with amazeball picks...

Was hoping Signori would last until the next time around - wonderful player (led the Serie A in scoring 3 times in the 90's and was in the top 10 just about every year).

And Djorkaeff is so underrated, he puts in a shift, dangerous and versatile ---> sorry to have missed out on these lads but glad to see both get a 3rd round pick valuation.  They deserve it.

Nice one, Signori was a great player for Lazio, nice to see him get some love :)

Thought Pep and Mauro Silva would go imminently. Was tempted by both but plumped for a double act.

And yeah, I reckon everyone of our vintage liked Signori just because they were on tv so much with Gazza being there. Obviously have to give a shout out to his one step penalties too.

Ah, Albertini, Xabi Alonso before Xabi Alonso was a thing.

But seeing as Lobo has picked him, I'll start trying to think of him more as the original Charlie Adam.

It wasn't dull where I was sitting.  Saw firsthand Germany beat Belgium at Soldier Field.  Wonderful match.

Actually all across the US for the first time in our history, we witnessed the beautiful game in a way that our country had not experienced.  New, exciting and vibrant.

Romania v Argentina was a great match.  Loved Holland v Ireland as well.  Enjoyed the Brazil-US match, intense.  And we did get the two best teams of the tournament - in Italy and Brazil (but sometimes the best games are masked by the final as the outcome overshadows what happened in the tournament) although the Germans would be hard to argue with as well.

And BD, your other points mask a few details as well - Golden boot was shared between Russia's Selenko (5 goals in 1 game against Cameroon skewing your analysis) and Hristo Stoickov who did make it past the group stages.  Each had 6 goals at the end of the tournament.  How many Golden Boots make it to the finals?  Every World Cup?

Selenko 6 (group stages all - 5 in 1 game against Cameroon)
Stoickov 3 (group stages and 3 in knockout).
Romario 5 (right there I'd say)
Bebeto 3 (not too far off)

More than decent partnership --- one of the most memorable national team partnerships of the 90's - 61 goals

C'mon now, this Brazil team was very good --- one that learned how to win ugly after years of torment from Argentina's 3 World Cup Final appearances (2 wins) in last 4 cups while the Selecao were regailed with would shoulda coulda at the biggest stage in global footy.   Tormented because every day is reminder of their talent, their history, and the possibility of soccer immortality.  Tormented because the last 20 years they were being asked how come its been so long since we raised the cup --- Pele.   Tormented because of the new style of play, more defensive than usual and relying upon the boys in the box to do their thing.  And they did their thing.

Brazil 1994 is one of the epochal teams which called an end to Argentinian dominance -- and inspired all new dreams for the future Selecao, leading to some truly brilliant players to come.   Not even the world's best player over the last 20 years (Messi) can say he has brought his national team to this level.

More than decent, mate.  More than :)
