I only hope this is not used to give those that don't have futures at the club a game, Either go with a full strength team with 2 or 3 youngsters or a team full of youngsters with 2 or 3 first teamer's.

FIFA secret memo 4 billion and three.

From: Sepp Blatter
To: Ken Dalglish.

Dear Ken: Its been decided Joe Cole cant play untill he promises to stop doing that standing around all floppy wrist inside-out hands on the hips tired gunslinger pose thing. Organized football world wide has been complaining about it. Its just unsightly. Im sure you understand, maybe you could have a word with him?
Thanks Milions.

Hope Sterling is atleast on the bench for this.

Carroll to start and Suarez to get a 10-20 minute run out aswell, get the lads fitness back up.

He's 16!!! There is no such thing as MUST for a fucking 16 year old. Seriously. What happens when he he is hacked down repeatedly by some lower league thug and gets injured or some old wily pro keeps him quiet and suddenly everyone on RAWK is going on about him maybe not being good enough or somehow deciding he needs to hit the weight room.
He will make an apperance this season, maybe several. It may even be in this game, but it will be from the bench into a situation where there is limited pressure.

Don't agree with that.

Carroll needs goals and more importantly he needs match fitness, its so easy to forget that he has only played eight games for us.

right but i honestly can't see carroll gaining any confidence from this game. the young players are going to use his head as their primary target much of the time. i know it's only exeter city, but that's still not an effective way of winning, and it shouldn't be the way we play with him on the pitch.

N'gog can do this job for us at the moment. wouldn't mind bringing on andy and suarez as subs for fitness reasons. but definitely not for confidence reasons.

Hopefully Kenny doesn't deprive some of our youngsters of valuable first-team experience by playing the 'dead-wood'.  The Carling Cup is a great chance for our up-and-coming stars to get some game time and the last thing I would want to see is the likes of Cole, Poulsen, Degen, Ngog and Aquilani playing.  Skrtel should play, it will be good for him to get as much minutes under his belt as possible in case the inevitable Agger injury occurs.

I would also like to see Wilson play at CB, far too many of his appearances last year were at LB, just because he is left-footed he shouldn't be forced to play there, hasn't had the opportunity to prove himself in his favoured position yet.

Hope we take this seriously.  We haven't won anything in 5 years and this is as good a trophy as any.  Wasters like Cole, Puolson and co shouldn't be anywhere near the team all they do is block the progress of the youngsters and all we saw more than enough of them in pre season.  I'd like something like this.

Doni

Flanno
Skrtel
Carra
Robinson

Maxi
Spearing
Meireles
Henderson
Sterling

Caroll

Ngog and cole should not be played if we are trying to sell them. Don't want to cup tie them. Carroll should play for fitness reasons and probably meireles too.

rather do crap in the cup and concentrate on league and getting into top 4, Only players who need match fitness should play from the 1st team contenders. Last thing we need is injuries or tiredness for critical players. We should be able to beat them with fringe players which we have decent qualityof now. Doing well on both is best scenario but rather save best players for League and rather FA cup.
Sorry, it's nonsense to speak about targetting the league and forgetting the cups so early in this season.  We need to make sure we win this game no matter what. I'd have some real quality like Suarez or Downing on the bench for emergency.

We have a big squad and lads need games, with no Europe if we go out of the League Cup on Wednesday we have 3 games in September - 3.

We have too few games lined up not too many and a defeat would just load pressure we don't need and mean we couldn't use the first decent squad we've had for years properly. Anyway, what's wrong with winning something. I've had great days out at League Cup finals and never thought at the end, aah well it's only the League Cup.

Success breeds success.

I want a strong side out and I think we will get one. A few regulars will probably get a night off but our squad is looking better now. Just hope younger prospects get the nod over the 'deadwood' suspects if he does mix it up a bit.

Looking forward to this. As we're in a transitional phase, nothing is really expected of us.

If we progress then I'll be delighted. If we get knocked out then it's one less game to play in a season where we need to concentrate on the league. We can go out on Wednesday and just relax and enjoy the game. No pressure.

Geez we are playing Exeter, who havent won in 4 (3 defeats, 1 draw) so far in league 1 not City/Utd/Chelsea. Its a squad game and certain players need game time in case we need them for a league game soon. Spearing, Skrtel and Meireles for a start. Id also give Wilson a game unless we are loaning him out and this will give us a clue to the futures of Ngog, Cole and Aquilani.

Personally I'd love to see us be really ballsy and field a side made up mostly of the reserve lads, with a few senior faces thrown in. We complain that there isn't enough competitive football for these lads......just don't see the value in playing one or two kids, with the fringe players, it's never worked well for us.

Oooh so many formations. Now I can make one too without feeling shame! (442 because I can't be bothered with formatting!)

Reina

Flanno        Skrtel         Carra         Robinson

Maxi         Shelvey           Spearing         Raul

Dirk          Suarez

Subs: Doni, Wisdom, Kelly, Sterling, Cole, Ngoo, Coady

• Could go either way at GK...obviously would like Doni to get a game but Reina could use it given his absence from most of preseason.
• I put Suarez in there because he needs the fitness. I'd take him off for Ngoo at the half. I do not feel strongly about Luis even playing this game, but I think it might be good to give him some time...and it'd be a hell of a thing for the Exeter players/fans!
• If Sterling's going to get any time with the 1st team this year, this is the match for it (well, I suppose we could get a similar draw in the FA Cup). It'd be great if he could get on for 20 minutes or so if we're winning by enough.
• I would really like to see Ngoo come off the bench no matter what. I think he's got a shot of being a real under-the-radar success for us.
• Like it or not, it looks like we're stuck with Cole...so we might as well at least keep him on the bench. He does still have occasional moments of brilliance left in him.

Would rather Ngog/Luis. Suarez- just like Meireles, needs gametime to get up to speed. Perfect game to do so.
I mostly agree with your liine-up, just hope we see Sterling/Coady get a runout- even if only 20-minute cameos.

With such a big squad and no Europe I think it's fairly important Kenny makes some changes, and I'm sure he will. The lads that have been in the squads without getting much game time with most likely start, so that's Maxi, Meireles, Doni, Skrtel, Spearing I'd expect to see playing

Then its a case of whether Kenny mixes youth with experience around them, those listed above are experienced theselves like so I think we'll see a mixture

If I have to guess right now I'd go

Doni

Flanagan
Soto
Skrtel
Aurelio

Meireles
Spearing
Lucas
Shelvey
Maxi

Carroll

Be interesting to see how Kenny approaches it anyway

Anything more that 6m for Joe Allen and we have been ripped off.

Loads of Joe allens out there.

I would like to see him stay at Swansea myself and see if he can have another decent season. He is a championship player - players like a championship player.

I don't want to take anything for granted in this game.  I want as strong a side as is decently possible.  The last thing we need is another embarrassment in the cups.

I'm not going to speculate on formations or players but I would like to see Carroll on the pitch for a period.  He could use a goal and this is as good a chance as any.  But I don't want Suarez anywhere near this game, we need to keep him for the league.
I don't always visit Lobster Pot.  But when I do. I sit.
