jamie jones is my current fave.  the way he mixes house and techno but still make the ladies smile is a five card trick as far as i'm concerned.

i've seen a lot of hawtin, villalobos and luciano over the years though i'm feeling from the last few times i've seen them that they're slightly past their peak.

still it was nice to see villalobos play with rpr at the dc-10 opening and closing party back in october.  a big day if you liked house and techno - we caught clive henry; jamie jones; dyed soundoroom (he is amazing if you haven't heard him before.  a sort of techno take on jamie jones and its ace when they play together); villaolobos; rpr soundsystem and damian lazarus.

the italians started to bang the fuck out of it from about 2am on so we slipped off to an after party.  i'm too old for all that blitzkrieg stuff.

an ex girlfriend sent me a link the borerecordings podcast.  its excellent and i would suggest starting with the lief mix:

"you have to get this podcast mate.. the Leif is one of the most beautiful mixes I've heard in a long time. so on that tip right now."

http://boerecordings.podomatic.com/

EDIT: house that takes things in a slightly weird direction.  perfect sunday morning laundry tackle.

very special.

i was listening to damian lazarus xmas lazpod and he had a few tasty new tracks on there not least the new single from the freaks on crosstown rebels.   still the stand out for me was this off key groover by lee jones.  its called 'yo-yo' and is on city fox.  it has something of johnny d's 'orbital life' about it but less bounce and more groove.  really, really good:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SgTuUQRn5j4

i cannot get this record out of my head or off my speakers.  do yourself a saturday morning favour and give it a spin.  massive for lazarus as the avalon in la last weekend ;D

currently really enjoying stacey pullen's mix for the little white earbuds podcast.  stacey was one of those 90s djs who found the excellent space just between house and techno to glorious effect in his 'the blood, the strobes, the sweat' track with its lazy snares.  this mix sees him in crisp contemporary mood without losing site of his detroit origins.  really good.  i felt he'd lost his way a bit in recent years but this is a return to his bristling best:

and here's solomun from d-i-ynamix.  a superb left field techno label with a flair for melody and prime time melodrama.  solomun plays techy house with the same sort of resonance as african head charge make dub.  deep as you like its also handy for the dancers:

this is one of the big records from the label a couple of years ago.  its steppenwolf by HOSH.  crazy brass and woodwinds over on a mission minimal tech house.  its brilliant.  modernism gone mad:

on a similar tip but from a few years ago is this peace division remix:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ub-bY25s1t4&feature=related

Sir Drew - Mates Rates (Peace Division rmx)

its got that bank holiday monday, all systems gone kind of vibe.  everyone's running on empty but there still going to give it 100% come hell or high water then this comes on.  a proper prime time banger clive henry has been doing this pretty much every monday for the past 5 years at dc-10.  killer record.

Anybody head the chibuku birthday saturday night?
adam beyer played the best set ive ever seen from him i think, almost 3 hours in the courtyard, brilliant unrelenting techno till 5 then brought it down for a half hour with some of the most amazing tunes ive ever heard in the courtyard, very unlike him but very very good, then finished on the kerouac remix of everything in its right place at which point any remaining bit of a plot i had left promptly got up and fucked off out of there, best night out in awhile

i have an adam beyer after hours mix from a couple of years ago i will try to dig out.  he said that he sometimes doesn't want to bang the back doors off it but its kind of expected of him now.  still i'm not sure i believe him as his instincts clearly take him into 'the zone' in terms of intensity.

for my tastes i prefer some other 90s swedish stalwarts cari lekebush and joel mull but i haven't either of them play for years.  its all about london and, of course, the germans for me these days with special mention to canada.

in honour of harvey's new release as locussolus i thought i'd post a link to my favourite one of his remixes.  i went to paris 15 years ago to see him dj for basenotic with a load of disco loving mates who expected on of the coolest living white's man's sprawling 'on a journey' disco set but instead the great man preceded to bang the back doors off it with a set of rattling house records.  the peak came with this record which he wove in and out of the mix for about 40 minutes while the beautiful parisian fashionistas danced up a storm:

Extended Family - Ulysses (Harvey's Crowd Control Mix)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pIa5JjUoZQ

locussolus is his new project.  really quite exciting as the big man definitely has a habit of falling into the camp marked 'lazy'.  he now owns a boutique hotel in hawaii so he can surf in the afternoon then dj when he wants.  the a side starts off in a crisp, contemporary minimal style before big disco washes start to infiltrate the groove.  i'm not posting a link as its not out yet and small labels need our support but here's a pic of the cover if you want to check it out:

great track.  excellent sense of 'bustle'.  reminds me a little bit of the lee jone's track i posted earlier but perhaps a little more 'house' than 'tech'

The original is a Cassius track but this is a different version and I'm not even sure if it's just a remix. Here's a download link anyway but it's a vinyl rip so isn't full quality.
I use Traktor with a midi controller which suits me down to the ground because the stuff I like to play doesn't need a lot of fancy mixing techniques.

Thanks for the comments lads.
