The Stadium Tour
« on: September 28, 2007, 11:40:12 pm »
How many of you have been on the stadium tour?

In all the years of going to Anfield it's never been something I had considered, or bothered, going on. I have done work inside Anfield when it has been shut and walked round all the stands etc so kind of thought to myself I had seen it. But because it was work, there was no chance of me being anything but professional.

However, my bird has paid for me and her to go on the tour tomorrow as part of my birthday presents and I am well excited! The tour of Barcelona's ground was great, but being able to touch the This Is Anfield sign is going to be a dream come true.

Obviously, I am going to take the camera. But are there any other bits people have particularly enjoyed?

I went on the stadium tour aged 10, and it remains one of the finest moments of my life (I'm now 33).  I can still see myself touching the "This is Anfield" sign :). Drink it in dude!

Been 3 times.

Each time has been unique and I learned something new.

Never go the day before a match at Anfield as you won't be allowed in the home changing room. They move the home kits to the away changing room.

Went the day after a match on the first tour Sunday morning and the easel was there with Ged and Thommo's X & O's showing the team what to do after halftime..they gave that page to a young lad.

Got to see the new lighting system which helps grows the grass.

You can't go on the pitch, even along the touchline.

Keep some shots for the home changing room, they leave jerseys up so most will want to take a few shots.  The Anfield sign is where there'll be a little delay as most will again want a shot...spent a lot of time in the museum although that was just before number 5 came along.

Been round a couple of times, well worth the money. I liked it much more than I thought I would.

Going in the changing rooms and down the tunnel is the best part. Touching the sign, too - of course.

Been on the tour 4 times, its something you need to do if you havn't already done it. It's not going to be there much longer!!

Going down the tunnel and touching the legendry sign makes it all worthwhile.

Enjoy :D

Did it about 5 years ago, it's cool listening to the guide telling stories about what former players used to get up to in the dressing room.  Coming down the tunnel touching the This is Anfield sign (when they play the noise of the crowd signing YNWA, the same as the players hear it when the ground is full!!)  and sitting in the duggout were the highlights for me.  Enjoy it mate.

Went last season however it was the day before a match so it was only a mini tour, which means you can't go into the changing rooms or out on pitchside, still a great experience but I've got to do the full one.

Well, it was pretty good. We went in the players' entrance, into the home dressing room and then had some free time to go in the away room and the interview rooms. Off down the tunnel, touching the sign of course and out into the dugout.

Then it was back to the museum. I was a bit disappointed that we didn't go inside any part of the stadium like into the lounges where the directors' have a scoff before the match etc but it was worth it for me just to touch the sign.

Well worth a tenner.

I thought the same - would have liked to peek in the board room and the trophy room and sat in the press box too (like you can on the Camp Nou tour).

It is a great tour though and well worth the money.  I've done it twice - once with the kids and once just me and the wife.

Funny thing was, I was pointing out to the guide where the paddock used to be (all standing) and the boys pen in the corner of the Kop.

Did it last summer.

One of the guides was saying about how if you touched the shirts an alarm went off and you got thrown off the tour. He asked me on the quiet if I'd pick a shirt off the peg and he'd pretend to chuck me out. Chose Fowlers, took a pic then got "escorted out". Got to go down the tunnel and out pitchside on my own.. ;D

Good tour, well worth a tenner. The old Kop barrier in the museum brought back happy memories.

Top tour. Sitting in the change rooms with the shirts all lined up was boss, and the Anfield sign was the pinnacle of fucking everything i've ever done. Ever. Sorta.

Guide we had was really clued up and laid on some real good information about things Shanks started and are still done today. Well worth the 10 quid and looking back i'd have paid five times as much and still been way happy about it.

Day i went was 2 days after the Chelsea game with that shitty penalty decision. Some knob end on the tour stuck his hand up when the guide asked any other teams supporters here today. The guide goes who you support lad?

"Chelsea.."

-stunned silence from about 30 people-

Guide: "So you've come here for a bit of history have you? Besides taht was no fucking penalty and you know it."

Everyone was laughing well hard.

haha when we were in the home changeroom the guide was like "Ok when you go outside, opposite is the away changeroom, and just to the right is the officials changeroom. You'll notice the hole in the door where Rafa's boot went through it after the game, so please excuse the damage we haven't got round to fixing it."

Like i said the guide we had was boss.

Standing at the front of the Kop when it's empty was pretty weird. Last time i was there and it was so quiet was after Hillsborough. Dad and i were talking about that to my brother, explaining what it was like that day.

But yeah, in answer to the question, do it lad, you'll never spend a better tenner.

Been on quite a few stadium tours around europe and our's ranks as one of, if not the, worst of them.

They don't really show you anything. In through the players entrance, the changing rooms and out into the dugout.

The problem with Anfield is that internally the stands aren't really integrated. But even so, they used to take you into the players lounge and even allow you to see the baths in the changing rooms - they don't allow this now due to health and safety!

Other stadium tours take you into the players lounge, directors box, control room, the highest seat etc.

It's worth doing if you're a Liverpool fan but I doubt many other fans would get that excited by it. It's a bit short in comparison to other major european grounds.

A mate and I went a few years ago the day after a Villa game.
I remember getting bollocked for taking a plastic cupful of water out of the dispenser.

Felt like decking him at the time if I'm honest.

"What will the players drink?" indeed...

After that we went to a box for lunch. I had Cumberland sausage - bloody cold and horrible it was.
The old waitress who served us moaned about everything.

"All the money this club has and they won't buy that guy a tractor to cut the grass" while pointing down at the groundsman doing his stuff.

Once was certainly enough for me.
After No.5 I said I didn't care if we never won another game. I was wrong.

I am finally getting the chance to do this next Saturday morning

Can't wait!

Can you park at the ground on non match days or is it a case of just parking in the streets?

You can park in the ground in the Kemlyn car park on non-match days, unless it's full. If it is there is plenty of street parking around the ground.

Have been on the tour several times and it's good value. The last time was right after we played Chelsea and Maureen's team brifing was still up on the whiteboard in the away changing room. His scribbles showed how much he was concerned about Lil Luis, as everything seemed to be centred round him as the danger.  Still got the picture, but don't think you can post them on here can you?

I used to take a busload of students by arrangement with the club years ago - early 80's -before tours were ever thought of and the biggest surprise when the official club tours started was how little things had changed.

What the lad above said about other tours is true though - on the tour of the Theatre of Dross, which I got roped into about ten years ago - you get to see pretty much the entire stadium- lounges, plush changing rooms, treatment rooms, offices, press briefing room, police security and stadum control rooms and the like. Their place is very flash and ostentatious compared to Anfield and of course it doesn't have the magic of THE SIGN.

I've done it as you can see from my pic. Well worth the money.

The tour guys will give you little stories from the shankly era. Like how the away dressing room is samller and less hospitible than the home. And how Man u got us to fit security shutters by the door because liverpool fans pelted the team with eggs.

They'll take you to the dugout and around the pitch to the kop. (the only rule is you cant touch the pitch)

Then you'll be left in the museum to look at all the cups :D

I had alot of fun and will do it again sometime soon
