Violence broke out in the second division of Dutch football when De Graafschap players were attacked by Go Ahead Eagles fans after their 4-0 win.

Footage from Fox Sports Netherlands shows fans running on to the pitch at full-time, kicking and punching players before stewards intervened.

Go Ahead said in a statement they were "deeply ashamed" by the actions and "condemn the behaviour" of the fans.

Fox Sports Netherlands reported that police had made seven arrests.

The opening of the match was held up by 10 minutes because of fireworks being thrown on to the pitch.

Go Ahead added in their statement: "The club makes every effort to take appropriate measures against those responsible."

Dutch manager Henk de Jong, whose De Graafschap side had more 400 supporters cheering them on, said: "Why can we not cheer? Our supporters did not know what they were going through, I think. It could have been 8-0.

"They did not know what to do with our tactics and our football was top."

De Graafschap move up to sixth in the Eerste Divisie, while Go Ahead remain in 17th place.

So when's Hakim Ziyech moving to a proper league...Was checking out some players - he's got the skill, he's got the numbers, he doesn't come with the English league premium. 25 now iirc, time to move. Possibly Serie A, Roma linked, but any club that needs an attacking mid / winger could take a punt on him, though probably best deployed as a number 10 or the most attacking centre mid in a flat 3 midfield.

Some good news;

Ajax's Abdelhak Nouri is communicating after waking up from a coma, say his family.

His brother revealed that the Dutch footballer reacts to people by raising his eyebrows, although he cannot walk or talk.

Nouri sustained severe and permanent brain damage after suffering a cardiac arrhythmia attack in a pre-season friendly against Werder Bremen in July 2017.

The 22-year-old was placed in a coma after the incident on July 8 2017 but is now recovering in a house built especially for him.

His brother Abderrahim told Dutch TV show 'The World Keeps Turning': "It's going well with Appie, but what is good? He's awake, he sleeps, he eats, he burps but he doesn't get out of bed.

"In good moments there is a form of communication where he moves his eyebrows but he can't keep it up for long.

"Appie is aware of where he is. It's good for him to be in a familiar environment with his family.

"We talk to him and watch football with him - he likes that. Sometimes it gets very emotional but often there's a smile. That's good for us."

Ajax fans have always shown their support and appreciation with tributes to Nouri.

Banners have been displayed at the Johan Cruyff Arena and hundreds of fans even gathered outside his home shortly after the incident.

Nouri's father Mohammed added: "For sure we believe in a miracle, this is a tough test for us but we will continue to do our best.

"It is our intention Appie will get better. We just have to take care of him as best we can."

Former team-mate Frenkie de Jong revealed that Nouri reacted to hearing about his move to Barcelona.

De Jong said: "When I was sitting with him, his mother came in. She said 'Appie, where should Frenkie go - to Barcelona?'

"As soon as she said that, his eyebrow lifted. That was a very special moment."

"Effects of the 2020 coronavirus pandemic:-

On 12 March 2020, all football leagues were suspended until 31 March as the Dutch government prohibited events due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the Netherlands. On 15 March this period was extended until 6 April. Following the decision of the Dutch government to prohibit all gatherings and events until 1 June 2020, this period was further extended.

On 2 April, several clubs including Ajax, AZ and PSV indicated they were not willing to play the remainder of the season.

The Dutch government announced on 21 April that all events subject to authorization, would remain prohibited until at least 1 September 2020. As a result, the KNVB announced on the same day their intention to cease all remaining suspended competitions. A final decision would be taken after consultation with the UEFA and debating the consequences with the clubs involved.

On 24 April 2020 the KNVB announced their final decision:[1]

The ranking on 8 March 2020 is the final ranking, but Ajax will not be champions.
There will be no promotion/relegation between the Eredivisie and Eerste Divisie.
European places will be assigned based on the ranking on 8 March: Champions League for Ajax and AZ, and Europa League for Feyenoord, PSV and Willem II."

Ajax and Netherlands defender Daley Blind collapsed during Tuesday's pre-season friendly against Hertha Berlin.

Blind, 30, was diagnosed with a heart condition in December 2019 after suffering from dizziness during a Champions League game against Valencia.

The former Manchester United player returned to action in February after having an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) fitted.

Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag said Blind was feeling "OK" after being substituted.

"Daley Blind's ICD went off. He got subbed off straight away and he is feeling OK now, he is feeling fine," Ten Hag told Dutch TV station Ziggo Sport.

"We will do research about this now."
