Sister is sorting her kid’s laptops out in prep for them being off. Both have Windows 10 on there but not Office.

Haven’t used a Windows PC for ages now so what’s the best / cheapest way to get the software these days? Any reliable places to buy a license?

Don't know much about licenses but I thought students got if for free if you have a .edu email address, that was certainly the case a while back.

You could always download OpenOffice as its free, you can save stuff in MS Office format so it will work when they get back to school.

There are places you get it for free but I seem to remember it being a pain to do a few years ago.

If you're in a pinch - just use Google docs.
You can open, edit and save Word, Excel or Powerpoint documents.

I use https://www.kinguin.net/ for cheap keys (cdkeys for games, but kinguin for general software)

Just got a Windows 10 OEM license there for £22 for example. Have a look matey (it's blocked at work so can't look at the mo) - it's been reliable for me

I said this to her but apparently the school needs to become verified. She needs to get on to them over it as imagine it's a simple thing they can do.

Depends on how they acquire software. MS Licensing is a minefield at the best of times. It's probably through the LA or other 3rd party rather than directly so may not be able to sort it themselves.

If you're buying from Kinguin, G2A or eBay you may as well download it from Microsoft and use an activator to get it for free. Such is the legality of licenses sold on those sites.

I did have a licence from my old work but it won't load onto my new computer says I've installed it too often...

I've set up a new Windows 10 device this week (my previous also had Windows 10). I've copied over files in my 'old' laptop's Documents, Music, and Pictures folders, and I'm now getting messages telling me that my OneDrive is full.

The majority of this content I can & would prefer to store locally, with just some select items stored on the One Drive - anyone able to advise how I revert back to a setup like on my previous device?

Yep - but, when I copied my files over to the new 'This PC/Documents', I wasn't expecting it to sync everything $:-\$

Just to be clear, it's not this issue (OneDrive sharing too many files onto the new device) but the other way around: My device sharing too many files to OneDrive.

Yes, they're on my pc (and the old one too, as an extra backup).

Hi, not sure if anybody can help. I run a very small business that uses Office apps. Can anybody clarify what licence i need to buy? Is there a way of buying a one off legitimate licence for business use or do I have to use their business subscription service?

Office 365 is an ongoing subscription but is always kept up to date with the latest versions

Or you can buy Office 2019 which includes Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook for a one off cost, but you'll have to keep the 2019 version (which will be around for ages yet anyway).
They try to hide the Office 2019 option as they want you on their subscription service

Brilliant. Thanks. What confuses me is, I see the one off licence from Microsoft for about 250,the there are lots of third party sellers selling it for about 25, I assume these are not legit? [emoji848]

No they are not valid, but the chances of Microsoft demanding to audit a small business are slim to none.

I paid like £60 I think? The subscription includes outlook (without ads and extra storage) and OneDrive 1TB plus word, etc. I thought that was decent.

The package was: 'Office 365 Personal' now called 'Microsoft 365 Personal'

By the way there's nothing wrong with' OpenOffice' if you dont want to shell out for Office 365.

It's still pretty good for a free alternative.

I don’t think I’ve ever paid for Office.

Google Docs, Sheets, etc, are great and Sheets is now a viable alternative to Excel,
