its all well and good saying that we should drop Carrol for Suarez, but you look at Carrol and how he has won the ball, the areas hes putting the ball when he wins it. Surely we would want Suarez to attempt to thrive on that and spearhead the attack with everything that is offered, not running into the ground attempting to offer chances to himself. With suarez in the striker position, we will have a lot of joy alongside Carrol.

          Spearing

 Henderson   Downing

its really not the time to make Carroll's confidence the priority - or a priority at all to be honest.

the only question is what's the best side to win the game - personally I don't think it has him in it, King will dominate him; others may disagree but the discussion should be about how we win the game not whether not AC needs a run of games to fit in or whatever

Great post

The only question that should matter is this, are Liverpool FC more likely to win against Spurs if Carroll is not on the side? For me it's an obvious yes.

we'll see - he's left him out plenty of times when everyone's been fit/available

guess a lot depends on if Suarez is ready to start

if we play 4-4-2 we'll lose this one no doubt, if we pack the midfield with Gerrard Henderson and Spearing we'll win it. I love Charlie but he's to slow to handle the tempo when we are without the ball

People keep putting Gerrard further forward behind the striker but its fairl obvious that he is now going to see out his career in a deeper role.  So Gerrard gets back into the team in either Spearings or Adams place.  Its a bit of a no brainer isn't it?

Why is Downing a must if we start Carroll? Downing didn't start against Wolves and Carroll had his best game in a red shirt.

Carroll's best game in a red shirt was against City last season.... and Downing's crossed are better then Dirks.
I watched a YouTube video and decided that Paul Konchesky looked like a player.

Carroll played fine without Downing on the pitch against Wolves.

Johnson - Škrtel - Agger - Enrique
--------Spearing - Gerrard-----------
----Kuyt - Henderson - Bellamy----
---------------Suarez------------------

Kuyt and Johnson on Bale duty.
Spearing and Gerrard on Modrić duty.
Carroll would struggle vs Kaboul and King imo.

Carroll played fine without Downing on the pitch against Wolves.

Yes he did, He looked very dangerous against Wolves, but with improved crossing in our lineup there is an even greater goal threat. Plus Downing is quicker then Dirk, and Spurs are a much quicker side then Wolves are, the added boost in speed would be nice to have.

Whats all this talk of crossing and aerial threat?  Suarez is better in the air than Carroll anyway..baffles me how he manages it but he is.  Regularly takes the ball from taller defenders and holds it up superbly.

For me Adam plays. We need to win this game and your safety 1st midfield plays right in to spurs hands.

Who created most of the goals midweek? Adam.

We need to get at spurs and create. I would start Adam instead of Henderson and play Adam were you put henderson. Adam is better in a 3 man cm and will hurt other teams with his passing ability.

Not even convinced I would start luis as he won't be match fit.

Do you have amnesia from when we played Spurs earlier in the season? Seriously your blinkered revisionism of the facts never ceases to astonish me.  Adam was outpaced, out-thought, and outclassed for the 20 odd minutes he managed to stay on the pitch.  We were better without him and managed not to concede in the period we had 10 men.

How you can compare the midfield of Wolves who gave ole Charlie boy the freedom of Wolverhampton with a quality Spurs midfield is beyond me, and probably most others.

Gerrard, Henderson and Spearing please Kenny  ;)

Bet you can't reply without slaggin me off or mentioning Lucas  ;D

Have you seen us do that once this season? if so id like to know when.

This got me thinking, what's stopping us from playing counter-attacking football against this lot.

Although we're at home, we know they're more attack minded and if both Manc teams win this weekend (which they probably will), Spurs will need to get a result to keep up with them.  This could play into our hands.  We know they have pace on both flanks and its no use try to compete against that. But we can stop them from using that pace to get into dangerous positions. We need to keep it tight and not do anything stupid... e.g. unnecessary sendings-off sending-offs red-cards!

The way we played against City and United in the Cup games comes to mind and if I recall, we didn't do too badly in those...

Fair enough.

Plus his deliveries have created a lot of goals for us and this might be the type of game where a free kick or corner might be the difference
if we get someone on the end of it.

He's got 6 league assists and we haven't scored alot of goals.

C'mon, his free kicks and corners have been shit!  Even Fordy will admit that  ;D
