The transfer reportedly is worth $10 million US, a record for an American player.

Good move for him, and for US soccer.  The interesting thing is that Altidore appears legit but has so far flown under the radar in the US and my guess is that 99% of Americans have never even heard of him.  As opposed to Adu who is a household name yet does not appear to live up to the hype.

As a fan of US soccer I hope he lives up to his potential, would be great to have at least one world class American player (and I think he has the potential to become that though he still has a ways to go).

The infallible wank stain
Lolzies. More chance of a wank off the pope than beating United, I'm afraid. It is beyond Benitez, apart from when they were at their lowest ebb, when we knocked them out of the FA Cup. They certainly aren't anywhere near there now.

Being loaned to Recreativo Huelva though?

I don't think it matters where he plays in La Liga, just the fact that he is there at 18 is a big step up for Americans. Also if anyone watched that spain game last night, Adu was really good for the Americans and was involved in every attack and once he left the game Americas game just broke down.

$10million is around £5million right? It's a gamble, but if it pays off he could be a top striker, seems to have all the required attributes.

But then at the same time we got Nemeth for how much? £75,000 was it? But then I guess with Jozy you could end up with all the merchandising and everything so if he does turn out good he may pay back his transfer fee on marketing alone.

Will be interesting to see how he progresses.
