Disagree with the mention of Vicente. He was one of the best wingers in the game before his injury problems.
"I was pleased also with Peter Crouch. We have been talking to him, before and after his nose operation, to show more confidence with his heading.

"Now it seems to have worked. Lets say that if he has a few games without scoring again, maybe we should arrange to break his nose again."

Rafa.

paddy kluivert.

post world cup usa and the ajacieden win, there were only two names on everyone's lips as to the next youth superstar to not only dominate football but become a legend- alessandro and paddy.

the first one's still there, flashing those pointy sideburns, went through with his team in serie b, and won a european cup and the world cup to boot.

the other one played for newcastle.

He HAS a winner's medal at the World Cup though!

as a Milan player but nothing afterwards (unless you count confederation cup as serious competition)

Actually, he was quite inconsistent for Milan as well, AFAIK, Milan never won a league with him. He had brilliant games, but he was overrated there and never deserved the Golden Ball.

Stopped readin after that, you clearly are mad when it comes to a Madrid player, FYI, his time in Milan is no where near overrated, one League in 2003/2004, one Champions League 2006/2007, one CL final 2004/2005, one CWC 2007 & two Euro Supercups 2003 & 2007 no where near overrated.

Why are people mentioning team accolades when talking about individual players? I'm not in any way saying Kaka has been a flop, but just because he was in a side that won X amount of trophies means nothing in this particular discussion. Unless, of course, he was actually a one man team.

Not sure what being a Champions League winner has got to do with it. So it Harry Kewell but his name is still being thrown around in here.
if the referee hadnt helped and iniesta didnt score that goal, messi would still be considered flop. trophys are taken into account when rating a player

I don't think he has plenty of time in Madrid. He is also 28, and out for half a year. I don't see "plenty of time" for him.

He will be shipped out for small fee, and would be dubbed as one of the historical flops, IMO.

Was it fitness problem? Who knows, either that or lost interest. He always finds time and desire to play for Brazil, but for Madrid, he is always said to be not fit :lmao

More people are beginning to think that your 'opinions' tend to be very biased.

In my living memory and therefore humble opinion, the biggest flop was Sebastian Rambert in the early 90s. He was supposed to be the NEXT big thing from Argentina.. a perfect foil for Batistuta. So allegedly sensational was he that Inter Milan shelled out the big bucks for him. I still don't know what happened to him!

There were two other South Americans Inter signed that year, one Roberto Carlos.. also a flop (@Inter) and perhaps the LEAST likely to succeed from the three.. Pupi Zanetti! He did well.. :)

The biggest flop... by definition shouldn't he be SO bad that most of us barely even remember him now but caused quite a big sensation when he came about? ala my selection Sebastian Rambert!

Not sure what being a Champions League winner has got to do with it. So it Harry Kewell but his name is still being thrown around in here.

Go watch the Istanbul and Athens and tell me who actually earned one.

Does Kewell have 3 assists in 2 consecutive finals? No.
Did Kewell play any of the group/knockout games? Not many.

Have Kaka won the Golden ball? Yes.
Has Harry Kewell? No.

Kaka is easily one of the best and most thrilling attacking midfielders in the world. Regardless of his form for Madrid, He moved country when he didn't even REALLY want to leave Milan, He has only had one season at Madrid and he has been unlucky with injuries throughout. How that makes him a "flop" I just don't know.

Biggest flop ... Mateja Kezman. Shit hot for PSV but then everything fell apart after that when he joined Chelsea. God knows where he plays now but back around 2000 to 2003/04 he was good. After that, flopped!

I remembered Baptista as well. I know, many mentioned him already, but deary me, he flopped at Madrid, then at Arsenal and I don't think he is doing too good for Roma either.

I thought he is the "Golden Ball" material back when he was at Sevilla. He suddenly turned into a very poor player.

Another one is Rafael Sobis. Real Betis, unlucky with Brazilians, put their entire transfer kitty for that summer, or may be for 2-3 summers ahead, and he turned out to be really really poor player. Betis got relegated, Sobis went to some Arab country, Saudi Arabia I think ;D

Some pundits said Sobis will become next leader of Brazil. Yeah right, utter wank ;D

I remembered Baptista as well............He suddenly turned into a very poor player.

I dont think he turned into a bad player. I just think he was never the player people thought he was. He had a few good seasons playing in a system that he suited at Sevilla....made the big move and was found out for his limited ability.

Now dont get me wrong, I dont think he is that bad of a player. He should have been nowhere near Real Madrid...it was a typical Madrid signing.....someone does really well against them in the league and has a good season or two...sign them up.

Okay, you guys need to define what constitutes a 'flop'.  A player like Schevchenko or Kaka who played amazingly for one or two major clubs previously only to make a move to a (usually different) league only to fail to adapt DOES NOT constitute a flop.

A flop in my book is someone who was hyped up to death from the back of one season or cup run, bought for big money, only to be discovered to be shite.

My nomination for Liverpool - El Hadji Diouf

Signed after a World Cup run for £10 million and was total bollocks.  Went a season as No 9 without scoring a single goal.
