Just realised Solanke is 19 years of age. Could be the best business of the whole transfer window (and I don't mean just for Liverpool).

Sturridge & Origi have a battle on to be back up for Firmino from what we've seen so far.

Before you all get too excited about Solanke let's remember that he was signed to play with the U23's this season.  We'll see him play in cup games but that's probably about it.  Give the kid some time to acclimate to the club without putting undue pressure on him.

The good thing is that last season we hardly had a striker for the cup games..  good improvement when playing against shite, and he might kick on to be an excellent striker...

I see what you're saying but....Top players can emerge at a very young age when given the opportunity, Fowler, Owen, Rooney spring to mind, even dare I say Sterling. Whether Solanke is a quick emerger or more of a slow burner remains to be seen but.....if he's good enough and produces in matches when he gets the opportunity he may surprise us. I do think you are right to be cautious though and not put too much expectation on him so early in his Liverpool career. But..... I like what I see so far 8)

we all like what we see so far but he's a long way off challenging to be ahead of Origi and Sturridge in the pecking order and nowhere near replacing Firmino as some have suggested.

I'm loving the competition for places though and the players all know that Klopp will not hesitate to ring the changes if he sees it to be desirable. Not been this confident in our club for years, even when Luis was here our squad was paper thin once the first team was knackered.

One thing I would really like to know is how we came to sign Solanke. I mean did we scout him, did his agent tout him about.

The move he made makes perfect sense. Out the top 6 we were the one team without a defined striker. Ok Firmino has done well, but lets face it, he is no number 9. Every other side in the top 6 were going to buy or already have their top man.

Would be ballsy if he sees us as that opportunity this season

Spurs need someone to back up Kane so that would have been a pretty good choice as well, if Pochettino had sold him on the idea of game time/chances.

Chelsea on paper would have made sense too given that Costa is leaving, but he was probably tired of never being given a chance there.

Arsenal would have made sense if they sell Giroud, as he'd more than likely get plenty of action in the Europa League and cups as Lacazette's backup. Probably doesn't fancy Wenger's project though compared to Klopp.

City are obviously a no-go. Not even Iheanacho can get a sniff there.

United are so poorly managed and he'll have seen Martial, Rashford, etc struggle under Mourinho. No way he goes there.

At Liverpool he has to contend with Firmino, Origi (10 and 11 goal seasons and still only 22), and Sturridge, though Sturridge is less of a factor if he's thinking medium to long-term.

He was never going to be more than a backup (at best) in any of the top 6 clubs, so it probably mainly came down to where he thought he'd develop most and have the best chance of success in the long-term. He could have chosen to go to a smaller club for more game-time (such as Everton where he would surely have been given plenty of starts), but he clearly believes in Klopp and that he can be Sturridge's long-term replacement. Hopefully he can fulfill that promise.

As Klopp said the other day, Solanke is an exciting project for the future. Considering our manager's reputation of developing young players, Solanke is at the perfect place for him. The talent and all physical and technical attributes are there. If he has the right attitude, there is no limit how good he could become.

I'm not buying he was bought for the under 23s after hearing Klopps recent comments. I feel he'll be on the bench for many matches this season.

Are "super subs" a thing of the past? The last really good one I can remember is Hernandez at United.

I think Solanke would suit that role, especially against teams who park the bus. He's big and physical but also fast. And as we saw from Palace game, he can find space and score in tight spaces.

Let us never forget Rafael Benitez and what he did for us. A fighter full of guts and passion. A gentleman full of class and dignity. A football manager full of intelligence and pure genius. A Legend.
Adios Rafa, buena suerte.

His style is perfect for the striker position for the way we play. He's got a bit of everything; pace, power, height, decent shot and a decent head. If he realises his potential he could be immense.
