However, I still don't get the point of the "specialists" over the usual class system and why they thought it was a good idea to remove the server browser option for the main mode.
Money and money. Specialists are there so they can sell a huge array of skins for them. They removed the server browser and match sessions (staying with the same group of players for multiple consecutive matches) so they could use skill-based matchmaking to give bad players an easier time and keep them more invested. That's also why they removed the scoreboard, can't have bad players seeing how bad they are!
It's a shitshow. The maps are just barren and the vehicle spam is horrific. You can end up getting matched into the same map over and over because you're forced to matchmake into a new group every time. You can't even swim underwater to avoid getting shot or lean around corners. Cover on capture points is nonexistent and weapon bloom/spread is crazy to make it harder for good players to stomp on people. Vastly fewer weapons so they can add them back in with battle passes later.
Team play is a joke, can't see when a medic is coming to revive you, can't differentiate between friendlies and enemies when downed, can't see if the squad member you're spawning on is in combat, can't notify teammates that you need meds or ammo.
Portal has potential but is marred by a lot of the same issues and they nerfed the hell out of progression because people were setting up XP farms, features are missing too due to them being removed from the main game.
Then all the usual stuff, performance, netcode, weapon balancing, vehicle balancing and bugs are all a mess.
I'm struggling to make it through my 10 hour trial and I've only really been playing it because I don't have much else to play right now.
